The T&NO P-14 class were the largest 4-6-2s on the Southern Pacific system. Here is one in El Paso back in 1940.

    Hey David-

Something I've wondered about- Perhaps you'd know. Were the two N&W locos still serviceable when the steam program ended? So that someday, (miracle?), they could again run?

    Welcome aboard!

Welcome to Trainboard, David. What a great shot of one of the truly great excursion locomotives. You guys in the southeast US had it real good until just about 10 years ago. I don't think anything has run since 1996 except TVRM specials. Is that so?

The 611 is pretty much ready to go. Would take a lot of money still but it is in good shape. The 1218 on the other hand was in the midst of a major boiler rebuild down in Burmingham when they pulled the plug. I doubt that NS put her all back together before they turned the engine over to the Museum of Transportation in Roanoke.

    Russell-

It's a major bummer they pulled the plug. But at least they could be rebuilt. So I suppose that's a plus. Are you listening Bill Gates? Paul Allen? Or? [IMG]

Here's one in memory of the late John Niegocki. Johnny sent this to me to post, one of his family's collection of B&A (Boston and Albany) history.

This old shot was taken back about 1947 to 49 somewhere close to Wheeling, West Virginia just as this engine was creeping out around this bend. It is an old sepia tone photo, but unusual to see how far the boiler swings out over the front engine set on a 2-8-8-2. From my uncle Tommy's collection.

Here's the ATSF 3751 in Barstow, December 1991, ready to run over the Tehachapi loop. I put this up today because TODAY 3751 ran from LA to San Bernardino for the dedication of the ATSF depot restoration there. Will be running back to LA tomorrow. She's a beauty.
