Reviving this thread with some recently-found slides: That's the Southern 4501 at the 1991 25th Anniversary of Steam in Chattanooga. 611 and 1218 are right behind her in a triple-header consist. My bassist and I drove down to see it and man was that awesome. Pardon the quality on this one. Pushed the hue too far. Will need to rescan when I can. Here's the 4501 parked behind my Vespa motorscooter. Mr. Claytor was at the event and came up with a NS photographer (that's not them in the photo, that's just some other interested passersby). Here's how the conversation went: Claytor: "Nice ride!" Me: "Yours too. Wanna trade?" Claytor (with big smile on his face): "Not a chance." Can't wait to see the 4501 under steam again!
Thanks for posting those. That triple-header must have been awesome to see in person with the three great engines, 4501, 611 and 1218. It is a shame that they are all parked now, though 4501 is being restored to service.:tb-sad:
Wow, was it ever. It was freezing cold in the morning, bad for someone on a two-wheeled vehicle, but great for steam photography. I'm looking for another sheet of slides that has shots from up the hill earlier in the morning. I did some long exposure shots and the steam from all three engines looks just awesome.
