Sinec Rail Images is not working, I am cross-posting from Railroad Forums gallery... I shot this view of UP 3985 on Archer Hill, basically the same shot of the Callenger I shot in February on the curve, but on the other side of the tracks:
I was at the Nevada State Railroad Museum this Saturday. They were running 3 locomotives. 4-6-0 #25 4-4-0 #8 And 4-4-0 #22 Makes me wish someone would make a better old time 4-4-0 in N scale
Very shagadelic, baby! Finally, here's my shot of the challenger attacking Archer Hill east of Cheyenne with its short train: The clouds played games with me all day, so these shots didn't turn out as nice as I was hoping for...
At the FORNEY Museum in Denver is UP X4005. It's locked inside today so it's tough to get a decent photo now but here is an post card of it. Today it's tightly jammed into a building with many other items along side her. [ March 14, 2006, 12:31 PM: Message edited by: Stourbridge Lion ]
What you said.. I just watched 'Last of the Giants' by Pentrex/UPHS, and I always wondered why they never restored a Big Boy... Now I know. Mostly, too expensive, too heavy, too big, too long, to hard to turn, too expensive, too voracious an appetite for fuel, too expensive.. Basically UP Steam crew can't and won't do it. So we'll have to enjoy the 4000's in static displays. Thanks for the shot of 4005, Darren! Here's a tidbit to tide us over till we get more shots of CMSP&P 261 and possibly SP&S 700..
And an obligatory shot of the Challenger's articulation: If ya'll ever get sick of seeing shots of UP 3985, lemme know, but it's all I can shoot till the Steam Crew finishes the major overhaul of UP 844.. (another year, I presume) I wonder if they'll repaint it in the Greyhound scheme?
Nice shot, Jeremiah. Like you, I just finished watching a Pentrex DVD, the 20th anniversary of the Daylight run to the world's fair in New Orleans. Man, does Doyle look young. He's up in the Dakotas right now running the 2816 on it's return to Calgary. This shot taken as the crew was bringing 261 into her home shop on July 4. Going to power down after a two week romp.
Steam metamorphosis: Here is the caterpillar at Steamtown in 1995, looking very sad, cold and rusting. Then the butterfly, after having been restored in British Columbia, arrived at Red Wing, MN, July 2, 2004. Rebuilt, fired up and running well.
A Ten Wheeler pulling the Inchon-Seoul Express at Seo Jeong Ni, Korea in November of 1956. The guy on the tender had a gun to fight off any North Korean agents who might try to stop the train.
In 1969 my Dad & I were poking around the old bone yard in Camdon, Texas and found a bunch of old steamers that were retired by the local lumber company. I belive most of them have since been restored and are scattered around the country on various tourist railroads.
Southern Railway #4501. What more can I say. Pulling a short freight northbound out of Chattanooga TN. June 24, 1991
Hey, this is getting exciting! There was nothing to compare to the N&W 611 and 1218, unless you have a Mo-cheen-gunner on a tender in Korea. Love the 4501 and never got to see her run. Keep all this interesting stuff coming, you folks.
