Ok, here it goes. Here are some pictures of my CP Rail Laggan Sub. It is a double deck, point to point layout, with a 5 track reverse loop staging yard at each end. There is 396 feet of mainline, one main yard, a paper mill, a smaller yard, and 6 sidings between the staging yards. I'm still in the process of adding some smaller industries along the way, but the major one is the paper mill. I usually run 35-50 car long trains, but I have started to run shorter locals of around 12-20 cars, and they are proving to be lots of fun. I don't have much of the scenery done yet, I'm still learning how to do that part!

We will start from the lower staging yard (Revelstoke) and go east...(sorry for the messy pictures, but it is a layout under construction!)

    Between Revelstoke, and Golden...

    West end of Golden...

A couple of industrial spurs at Golden, and the shop tracks...

Looking back at the yard, starting on the right side, Siding, Main Track, Track #1,2 and 3. The 3 yard tracks to the far left will only hold about 17,20 and 23 cars, but there isn't allot of traffic here.

A closer look at the Golden Switcher units and Caboose. CP SD45 #5490 and SD40 #5580.

    East end of Golden...

Here is the west end of the Paper Mill at Ottertail, I've made some cardboard mock ups of buildings, for the time being...

Here is more of the mill...

These are the Paper Mill switchers, CP SD40's #6411 and 6403.

Still going east, we come to the west end of Field. 'M' yard in the back, and 'K' yard to the front.

    Middle of the yard.

Looking at the shop tracks and 'N' yard to the right.

Here is the far east end of the Field...

From here you start the 2.2% climb through the Spiral Tunnels and up to the second level. It is just over 100 feet to the second level.

The Field industrial switcher will pick up wood chips from here and take them down the hill for the paper mill...

Still going up the hill. I was going to hide this part, but thought that it would be better to keep it exposed, even though it is only a few inches wide.

The west end of Cathedral, this is a siding at the bottom of the Spiral Tunnels.

    Around the curve at Cathedral.

Here are the Spiral Tunnels, I've started come scenery, but I'm still learning! I'm experimenting with lots of different techniques still.

Here is a pair of SD90's just going into the Lower Tunnel.

And a picture looking at the Upper Tunnel. The scenery in the front is not perminent, it is just better than sitting on the floor. (It's actually from Grant Eastman's old SAR layout!)

That takes us about 250 feet over the layout. There is about another 150 feet on the upper level, I'll have to go and take some more pictures of that and post later.

Everytime I see that layout, I stand in awe.....
Have you bought stocks in a company that makes trees? [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Luckily Mike knows the trick to trees... Feed me and I'll make them for him. Sounds like a good deal until you realize how much I eat!!

[IMG] This is a layout that will be fantastic to operate, and just to look at! I really like the potential for scenery that traverses distance. This will be truly impressive when done! [IMG]

That is the straightest damned track laying I have ever seen around these parts.

    Looking good!
How big is the size of the room that you are building this in?

The layout is in a 28'x28' basement. I've used almost all of it, (except the stairs furnace and water heater!) I even have a plan to move the water heater to make more room for a different staging yard, but my wife isn't too happy about that, so I don't know if it will ever happen! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Paul, it seems like there is more going on here than over at some of the other forums. I think I'll stick around here from now on! I'll update the topic as I get more finished, and I'll try to post a new track plan, the old one has changed, (of course!)

    Mike,

Thanks for the tour here on Trainboard! I've always followed your posts over on the Atlas board, and am glad that some Trainboarders now have seen it (though I think a lot of us switch back and forth.) I kinda wish that I'd held out for two stalls of the garage, rather than just the third. Isn't one room in the house worth two in the garage? Not if you finish it, said the wife! There are few basements here, since foundation depths max out at 18 inches, so we build 3- and 4-car garages instead.

    davidmbedard,

Welcome to Trainboard! I've enjoyed your posts over on Atlas.

Hey David, I see you made it over here too. Yep, that is your Red Barn sitting in the shop track at Field.

Been a long time since I've seen pics of your layout Mike. Still as impressive and awe inspiring as ever. I am still amazed at how fast your progress seems to go. Glad to be able to see your stuff over here now [IMG]

    Mkie,

What are your plans for the layout? Are you concentrating on an area or just doing scenery along the way

    Mike -
What a totally awesome layout. And it looks better every time you show it. Thanks for sharing. [IMG] [IMG]

I would have assumed that you didn't have kids (due to the kids=less train time postulate), but I see a high chair in one of your pics. How do you do it? One of those people that can live on 2 hours of sleep per night? Or do have one of those time shifter things like Hermione had in the last Harry Potter movie so you can be at work and working on your layout at the same time? [IMG]

    Anyway, awesome work.

And it's good to see a fellow C80 afficianado [IMG]

Excellent looking layout. [IMG] It'll be fantastic when completed. Do you have a layout diagram?
