I'm hoping to catch the train as it comes into town as well as some shots when it unloads. Also thinking of going to GATS this year so maybe we (and others?) can hook up.
At 3:29 PM the train with CEBX 800 backed onto the Raton main at Trinidad to head towards La Junta. I guess the were going try to put a few miles in that direction before they tied up tonight.
Odyssey, thanks for the info!! I'm out of town till Wednesday night, so if it comes through Thursday or Friday who knows? If it comes through earlier, hopefully Darren or Keith or someone else can cover the event for us!

Still a Denver ETA of Friday?? Or will this thing actually arrive before then? I've got GATS set up Friday, until 9:30PM. IF I have the money for gas, I'm hoping to maybe catch a couple of photo of the train, depending on where it is. I won't be able to leave Longmont until at least Noon, or shortly after - oil change and tire rotate/balance at 10AM. And at least an hours drive to Denver, depending on traffic. Getting to Santa Fe Drive(Hwy 85) is gonna be "interesting" Slightly more detailed updates are prefered, so I have an idea of when/where etc.......to catch train.
So what happened with the weather? Wasn't there a foot or so of snow to come over the weekend? If so, any effect on the move? Boxcab E50
Sunday we got hit with 12-24 inches within the South Denver metro and most of it has already melted by Monday afternoon. Sping storms in the COlorado front range, here today and gone tomarrow.
Looking forward to your shots, Steve!! Because of the storm my flight to the East Coast got canceled - only got out today. So I won't be back till Thursday night. So hopefully they'll slow down and wait till I come!
Steve, Where will you be coming from - What direction?? I'll be headed down from the north - out of Longmont. With a trip to the Stockshow complex also scheduled, for trainshow set up. I'm thinking about heading as far south as Big Lift on the Joint Line. And maybe following train back as far as possible. Would like to get a shot, or two, of train passing over bridge(s) by C470 interchange. In some way, keep watch for a red Ford Ranger Edge, flairside truck, with Tonneau cover. and SP locomotive seat in back!
I guess what we need to know right now, is: Where will they tie down Thursday night and where? Then when is departure time Friday?? Earliest I'll be in the area is about 1:30PM. Truck maint from 10AM to Noon. I'll be there and ready. One way or another!
Well I was going to dash south today but it appears that the BHL just left La Junta but alas work interfers. However I will be out Thursday and Friday . Just look for a Dark Blue Ranger w/topper and an American flag covering the rear window along with the idiot (me) and my gear arrayed around the truck . Steve
How many TB members in the Denver area have a CB radio, in vehicle, or handheld in my case?? Was thinking that the radio could help in coordinating photo chances as train slowly approaches Denver. I want to TRY and get a photo/video of train passing over Santa Fe Drive, by 470 interchange. Depending on time, I'm hoping to make Palmer Lake to catch train, IF it doesn't pass through before I get there. Which MIGHT be sometime close to 1:30PM, depending on traffic. One way or another, I hope to catch up with a few new trainboard members sometime Friday!
Don't even own a cell phone... I plan to have my Video camera with me plus my little 1MP Digital camara for a few shots while the video is running.
Well I found it this morning along with all of the others. What a sight. I must have drove right past last night. I have some good shots will get them posted tonight. They are supposed to be in Denver by this afternoon then according to the Project manager that I talked to Denver PD is going to shut down Brighton Blvd at 1800hrs to move and unload. The vessel is an amazing piece of work. Its 7" thick and is used to remove sulfer from fuel to make it enviromentally safe. From what I learned today that CEFX 800 has not been on the rails since 1993. There is aproximatly 1,000,000lbs of force holding the vessel in place on the car! Steve
