Replaced the green grass mat, with Black 2mm foam for testing :) Looks really good. Tried the Tan and the White foam didn't like them as much. Might need construction paper in the end, would like to try a Navy Blue also? BTW, that kits comes with 2 pcs, and I remember now I painted one and it screwed it up and did not look right. Never thought about putting a color under it :) I bought this stuff month's ago. Glad I just happen to find it when looking for something else :)

The plastic sheets I used on the first A&JB many years ago were made by a European company. The package came with 2 plastic sheets for water and 2 sheets of light blue paper to put under the plastic. We lived in NY then and the layout was set in NY state. Rivers and lakes up there aren’t bright blue. They range from fairly dark green to black. Black construction paper is readily available and looked good for NY water. I didn’t think about using something like a grass mat.

Modelers have mixed results with Realistic Water. For some it’s fabulous but for others not so much.

I had completely forgotten about the plastic sheets. I’ve used Mod Podge Gloss for water with good results. It’s not as easy as the plastic sheets and takes a long time to completely dry but in the end it looks good.

The scene you’ve created looks great. The canoes got there from where the water goes off the layout.

Thinking out loud. I wonder if I can use a thick piece of paper and cut it out to the shape of the "lake" or "pond". Then take an airbrush and start with the outer perimeter with a light color (whatever shade is appropriate) and gradually get darker towards the center.

Put the plastic water sheet over that and Bob's Your Uncle! :ROFLMAO:

You have a Hobby Lobby in your area? Let us know, and show it to us, when/if you get the plastic water sheet. Like to see your idea too about airbrushing. I just hope they still sell it near me?

They also sell JTT scenery stuff, just have to see if it will fit your scale. Might try some of that too, maybe? If I think it will work for N Scale :)

So yours came with the paper to put underneath it? I think Michael's has some Blue plastic water but did not care for it online. Might look there too one day? Or maybe they have the JTT brand just not showing up online? I think Home Depot sells something like it in a larger form, but not sure. I'll look there too one day. I prefer the JTT plastic water.

    Here is JTT's website:

Man these people make all kinds of stuff. Of course it's the high prices from their website :)

I would like to extend the water feature, and add a dock if I can. Any ideas? Once again if I mess up I can buy another 2'x2'x1" piece of foam from Home Depot. I need more canoes possibly, and a truck and trailer, and...everything :)

Let's just say an experiment. This could go horribly wrong :) No, it's not going in the oven :)

You can't add acrylic paint to the realistic water right, for color? I don't have that WS Murky stuff. Will it react with it and blow up, or melt in a styrofoam cup, or plastic cup? Think I'll pass for this test :)

When I poured my whitewater creek I added a couple of drops of Vallejo paint to color it.
Just pour a little in a small cup and stir in a couple drops of paint.
    See what happens?

Yup, it came with the paper. It was a German company but I don’t remember if it was Vollmer, Faller, Busch or some other company. I don’t even remember where I got it but it’s a very easy way to model water and looks really good.

I haven’t tried it but I can’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work.

That plastic sheet water looks great! Definitely going to have to remember that stuff when I finally start building my layout.

The water look of the plastic sheet is real nice. Going to pick up next time at Hobby Lobby.

Guess where I went today? Yep, another trip to Hobby Lobby and I got really lucky. At first I did not see the "Still Water" cause it was not hanging up but laying on a shelf. Almost bought all of it they had. I got 3, they had 5, and 2 in each pack :) And a few other items. Some bright blue 99 cent 2mm foam for the plastic water to try, 60 pack tiny trees, rocks & gravel, lichen ( what is that? ), and another grass mat for some reason :)

Some other items they had, it's not all they sell.

I have to visit my local Hobby Lobby. It looks like they have a lot of model railroad scenery products.

Pretty good selection for a Hobby Lobby. Just have to see IF some items work for your scale :) Most are generic and probably work with all of them, grass, trees, etc... The peeps they have at mine are too big for N Scale. Don't forget the plastic water :)

How obvious is the seam if you join 2 sheets of plastic water to make a bigger or longer lake/river?

If you use Black underneath not that bad. Also depends on the angle too looking at it. Need to buy at least one pack and test it. Might could add scenery to help, depends on person using it.

Blue is more obvious. That wouldn't bother me with the black. I'm not sure I'll have to put two together, but not sure? You might could add White glue, but I wouldn't. Also depending on lighting I guess. I mean you usually just glance at the scene :) Up to the individual.

I am more worried about cutting it. Which I will try at some point. Don't think that will go well, but I am going to try.

Just messing with a diorama, and the plastic water and JTT trees I just got. To learn scenery. etc... You can't see the glue dots holding the peeps up in real light. I will trim them at some point though. It's nice to be able to move the peeps around :)

The plastic water looks really good in small scenes! JTT sells diorama kits at Hobby Lobby and I think that is what the plastic "Still Water" is for? School projects, family project's, model railroad projects, whatever... For $3.29 two sheets, worth every penny :) Also the JTT wire trees , 60 of them in a pack, are nice for what they are.

Need to practice with the static grass applicator I bought a long time ago, although the static grass colors are bad that came with it, I can still practice and buy better color static grass later.

Need some more small boats, sail boats, and some fishing peeps :) Once again, imagination is key with dioramas, layout's, etc... :)
