I did get some of the mountain work done but mainly i got all the coal mine finished. All i need to do is get the rough coats of mountains done and i can mount all the buildings one after another. Have shots of the finished coal mine. I need to find a sheet of aluminum to make a door and i know i have some but, about the only store that has a power cart is Home Depot and Walmart so i am not into any shopping. Shots below, Smoke
well around the house i take the boot off. I have a hard time getting to the other side of the layout so its on a holding pattern. I got most of the foam cut and in place about as far back as i can reach. Its slow going. I got the track in place and i have checked the track for loss of power and for shorts and no jumping track. I do need to clean that oils from the new rails and add no-ox to it to help keep it in working order. I other than that i guess thats all for now. I got 3 pics i took to show how much i haven't done yet. later on maybe after i get to see the doctor. Laters
I try to keep it up but this is all i got done in the last year. First in the hospital in December at Christmas time. 2 weeks later i get out and heal from that. Then i get to the end of June and i break my leg and that has been over 3 months and i sit here, not in pain but with a swollen leg and not sure what i did as it has no pain but this goes all the way up to the knee. right now i had been trying to get a few steps to like go to the bathroom and back but i didn't twist the leg or fall. Just like now It isn't in pain. but shouldn't be like that. The dr told me to hold up to half of the total weight on it and i have been doing that for the last week. This year has been a royal pain. i keep finding new pieces that i can use and they are over here beside me that i can use on the layout. I still have the main parts of the layout covered in a plastic tarp to keep the dust out and anything else that i don't want on it. All the plaster dust will be the most. Anyway i have rambled long enough. Hope all of you out there are having a better time of it, Smokey
I can take a few steps to the bathroom or even the kitchen to the fridge or coffeepot. even from my bedroom to the office here. I don't think its more than 8 foot total from each other. My leg is swollen from above the knee to my toes. I have stayed off the leg today using the crutches to move around. just taking my time but its a pain, I don't know how the reason that am swollen and no pain and for the leg being swollen at all. Dr told me to put up to half my weight and when i walk some steps it shouldn't be above that. Anyway i am seeing him Weds so maybe he can tell me if this is normal or what.
i got into some of the parts i wanted to use on this layout. I bought timber cribbing. Mike had these. I never tried to use them before but it really sets off the tunnel from the river to the roof-door for that area. My leg quit swelling and for the most part is back to what i would call normal. My other leg is also playing the game of swelling on and off. Anyway,A couple of shots below. Smoke
legs are not to bad. the right leg is weak yet but i try and make the muscles to work more and more. If i am going out i take the crutches. Not doing any 1 mile runs, but i can go to a store and use there motor cart to shop. My legs are getting used to walking again. The Muscles are still weak. But it feels great to be able to get my own cup of coffee without calling out for Debbie. more on the layout after awhile. I am working on the door to the tunnel. Its the next thing i want and i need to patch up the plaster above the tunnel entrance. Its starting to look a bit like a railroad again.
Well, unless i really feel pain or something like that i saw this doctor for the final time. I got the boot off and came home and turned my mind to the layout. I got the door on the hinges and its coated with plaster cloth and i got the tunnel entrance done on the coal mine side. I don't like one thing and that is the frontal hinge Its not wanting to stay strong in the foam.I got to take it out and use some of the strong heavy coat CA to finish that. then it should be good and tight. I got shots and i like it. I am having a good day! Not worrying about the leg or foot for a change
Well, i got to where i couldn't sleep so i got up and after shaping some of the foam i layered out some plaster cloth. The lid for the tunnel is going on and i got to figure out how i need to mold around to make a joint that's less visible. I plan to do more on that today and also to use some of the drywall mud to help shape the mountain around the corner where the door meets the mountain. I have two shots of that mountain when i used the plaster cloth. Apply some mud and shape it around and more mud... more plaster cloth... yeah...
Ran into a rather large issue with the mountain. I needed more mountain and less flat. Measure twice cut four.. The mount just got a lot bigger. Shots below, Smoke
Well. i have it figured out. I am making the mountain a lift off section. I can get to all the track and not bother the coal mine. And i have all the room under to get at all the track under the tunnel. I got the first coat over the mountain done. Its drying and i want that good and dry before i put the pieces for the top of the mountain on the lift off piece. Its a really large piece of foam and its got two pieces built up on top of the first piece. I think it should look good when i get the plaster on and some mud to finish it up. I got a lot of clean up to do before i dare run any trains on it. Looks like i might just have the plastic cover off the rest of the layout and run some trains all around the layout. I started this back i think a couple of years ago. and put parts together and that corner was last. I didn't finally start the board, track and anything else needed to really get this going this last 2 months. I should have plaster done and i can have it up and running again for Christmas. YES!!! Shots f the fun. laters
Yeah, once in awhile my old brain works. I got to do a bit of trimming of the cloth on that one side as it was covered up for the old plan.I don't plan to do much today. My back don't like me standing on my legs and bending over the layout. I can work on that frontal facing the coal mine. I got the drywall mud for all of it. Leg isn't really bugging me but my lower back is..again. I had surgery back in 93 and it didn't go all that well. Anyway i do it as i can. I would love to be running trains for Christmastime.
