My wife had a bad fall last year. Took 14 titanium screws to put her leg back together. Her leg healed and yours will too. Keep your chin up.

I am getting my Nephew and deb to help me out with uncovering the layout and see if i can run some trains on this new section of the layout. At least i can do that without hurting myself. I made the cut for the top of the mountain where the area to gain access to under the mountain is to be. I got some of the wiring ready and the turnouts are all connected and will work when i want to switch the turnout to that track. I have power to the track and no shorts. I plan to get a ut-6 for this layout so i can control more than one or two engines. i have powered 4 at a time without any problems. So adding a controller to that will not hurt my dcc system. its just hard to keep up with engines that are running at the same time. I am having a hard time with staying awake with the drugs they gave me. I have caught myself falling asleep and being woke up by Deb. Tv does that to me. So does music. I have already done a little driving and i can use the left foot. Its a bit like oversea cars and trucks. I have had broken legs and one other right foot/leg. My va doctor wants to see me in the morning so not sure what he wants but i will find out. Always fun around here! Thats all for now, Laters folks

Take care and hope you have someone to take you to the VA. Driving and 'falling asleep' don't mix well ;).

So, I was runniing a engine around the track and the new turnouts and things seemed to be working along just fine till something broke the power connection to the track. I must have spent over a hour testing different sections of track but just plain dead. I was checking the book for ideas, going down the list and one of the ideas was did i appear to have power but the track didn't. it was right then i knew i had wasted a hour for nothing. The power plug was partially unplugged. everything is working well. that engine eats up those #6 and #4's like nothing. Anyway i am making a order up to get the track i need to finish the rest of the new section. I know, Dumb..yep, dumb! :ROFLMAO:

We’ve all had days like that. It happens, Smoke. The good thing is that it was a very easy fix.

I was thinking about this and I remembered that about 2 months ago I went into the train room to run trains. I have a Lenz DCC system. The transformer is plugged into a power strip so I turn the trains on and off with the switch on the power strip. I flipped the switch to turn the layout on and nothing happened. I tried flipping the switch a few times with no success. I thought maybe I accidentally pulled the plug but nope. The room lights were on so there had to be power but went to the garage to check the circuit breaker anyway and, of course, it was fine. Back in the train room I sat and was puzzled. There’s an on/off switch on the transformer so I tried that and the layout came to life. Apparently I had flipped the switch on the transformer rather than the power strip when I had last turned the layout off. So simple and so stupid. I wasted 15 to 30 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong when all I had to do was flip the switch. Very frustrating and humbling but I finally got to run trains.

I thought i would give you a update. They cut the old cast off this morning and after X-Rays they put me in a new cast. The leg is healing real good. This cast will be off in three weeks and then the lead boot till they think its fully healed.
I have laid the track but need some pieces of straight track but i can't get back there to figure out how long they need to be. I may have to wait till i am out of the cast first. I also started to lay down some foam for the mountains. Still carving them out yet. I need to get more foam for the mountains too. Gee i am running out of everything....(n) Have a couple shots of the coal mine area and starting the mountains its not great looking yet. But i am starting to die of tv boredom. laters

I’m glad to hear you’re getting better, Smoke. When the cast comes off in 3 weeks will you be able to work on the layout or do you have to wait for the boot to come off?

Glad to to hear the recovery is proceeding well Smokey! Bet you are ready to be done with that cast for sure. Good to see you are still able to do some work on the layout as you recover. (y)

With the boot i will have more use of the leg so i should be able to get around to see what i need and make measurements and also do more on the mountains. Right now all i can do is carve the mountains and something i picked up from Mike Fifer is a way to blend front mountains to the back mountains and make a small tunnel and then the back track around to the far right side will be in between hills and on the corner right in the front it will be all the way flat to the coal mine area. I do think i am going to have to quit watching him as he gives me ideas and then i am changing things around. So most of the new section and all the under side of the mountain with the two lines came from him. so if it don't work out.. Its his fault!!!:p
It worked out on paper and i used SCARM as well to get the pieces right. And i also get ideas from MRH mag and videos on you tube. There is a lot of good ideas out there if you go looking That back wall and right side i needed to be open so i can gain access to the track. If i hadn't seen this idea on video i would not have done this design for the mountains and cut between the mountains for the track. You know me by now, I will keep watching and come up with more ideas:) I am going to carve more of the mountain so i will be busy for awhile with that. Once i get the cast off i can crawl under the layout to the back side and get what i need in measurements. The SCARM program didn't quite fit. I am off by a couple of inches as i see it. That and one of the tracks from the underside of the mountain didn't fit so back up and regroup. I figured it out so that is what counts. I have lots to do on it and it will keep me busy for awhile. So..i will see ya around!

well, i got what i could do with the pieces i had. I don't have it glued or anything. I am going to the drs so i will go after to home depot and get me some pink. I am getting well and working on the railroad takes my mind from the broke leg. I still am fighting the hands yet but so far they are playing nice. I got meds for them anyway. So, i guess thats all for now. I got to get more foam before i can do anything else anyway. The plaster that mike sales is really great. problem is hes out. So i am going to wait and see if he is able to find more plaster cloth. Have a couple of shots of the disaster so it may be a bit before i can do to much

A quick update to let you know i got the hard cast off and they put on a boot. Its weird but feels better than the cast and i can take it off and take a full hot bath! So, I went and opened up the crate and pulled out the houses. and all the pieces of coal mine i had built. Lucky that i had them in the crate where they wouldn't get busted up. I am going over the blueprints to get started again. I got a couple of shots of that fun. The shots were after unboxing. I got all the foam i need and and did do some work on that new side. No shots and i have been busy. If it isn't my doctors its Debs. We can't seem to win. Anyway, shots below, smoke
