Bravogjt- those cars looked like they were in West Yard. The boxcars have been thre for quite a while (at least since 1999, IIRC). Don't worry about quality- the fact you got these cars before they were Borged or scrapped counts first and foremost. PS- it was just good to see the Uncompahgre Uplift in the background again......
Friscobob - Thanks for the compliments. Your right about those cars sitting in the west yard. I happened to see them sitting there as I pulled into the Justice Center's parking lot for jury duty. I know of another box car that is parked in Palisade that I will try to photograph soon.
Hi all, If you are looking for Rio Grande cars to shoot, there are still a few around on the western slope. GJ: MOW Derrick and mates Glenwood: MOW flat Bond: MOW boxcars and such P-Burg: MOW cars and such Hayden: 40' boxcar Kremmling: 40' boxcar Tabernash: 50' boxcar All of these were present this summer. Some could be gone by now. The San Luis Valley is rich with old boxcars converted to storage barns. There are also a lot of old RGMW trailers running about.
grande5771 - Welcome to the TrainBoard and thank you for the information. I want to catch some more D&RGW stuff before it is patched or becomes scrapped. Hemi - Great shot!
Only 2 unpatched units remain... And D&RGW 3100, a GP40-2, has been 'placed' at Burnham... Seems a patch is imminent... Get pics while you can! Only 5371, an SD40T-2 will then remain unmolested...
I caught this one off of Highway 50 near Montrose, CO. She might be patched but at least she is not completely yellow.
Time to send this one back to the top... While on my last Moffat Route trip, I was determined to capture as many former D&RGW and D&SL signals as I could. The ones at Radium in particular are merely days from being removed, as their replacements are in place, and are facing perpendicular to the tracks... These signals date fromt he original CTC installation of the 40's. I also grabbed shots of the D&RGW signals on the Dotsero Cutoff, and points west, when I could. East Tabernash, the beginning of 2% ruling grade for EB's on the run to Moffat Tunnel: Check the original milepost!
As I've heard, the last remaining T-Motor will NOT be patched!! It will remain in its original DRGW colors until the end, what/when ever that may be.
Thanks, Windle!! Always great to see Grande Gold! Here's another vestige of the Denver & Salt Lake signals, at Fraser, CO; between Winter Park, and Tabernash:
