I shot this stripped/boarded-up Geep 30 in the Coors brewery complex, in Golden, CO:

Next time you come down, I'll take you to one of the UP yards and show you their MOW train, that still has one of these. It looks a little better (emphasis on little [IMG] ). It's close to where they keep the ski train...

Here's the Good news, regarding the 3011.
She's propertry of the Colorado Railroad Museum!! In storage at Coors until the Museum gets the $$$ together to get the 3011 onto Museum proper.

    William:
Make it a weekend, that both Hemi and I have open......and you can count me in for a trip down, digital camera in hand, with several Empty media cards!!

Keith, you got yourself a deal! Jeremiah and I have started plotting a few spots worthy of attention. Where in Colorado are you from?

Too bad I don't live in Colorado...
But I know a few NICE spots on Sherman Hill for railfanning.... Maybe we can get together to see UP fighting its way up the hill, and maybe a layout tour of the BN High Prairie Sub!

    William,
I'm in Longmont. About an hours drive north of Denver. About the same from Longmont to Cheyenne.

    Hemi,
Might actually look foward to that!! Have not been to Cheyenne or a railfan trip in years!! Haven't had a reason to go.

Last time I was up that way, a friend and I were bumming around. Ended up being physically harassed by someone who claimed to work for the UP, failing to provide proof when we asked for it, 3 times!! Said we didn't deserve to see it.
Anyway....Almost 2AM, think I'm gonna quit early today.

There are a few really NEAT shots to be had on #3 track, and up at Dale Junction. One day, I would love to shoot Hermosa Tunnel.
If we do make a trip out of it, bring a windbreaker! [IMG]

Hermosa Tunnel would be a great place to go!!
Been to Cheyenne many times in the past, with a friend. Rare was the day there was NOT a breeze of sorts blowing!! Up there, who needs gasoline, just raise the main sail!! :D :D :D [IMG]
Although, the same can be said for the stretch of Hwy betwen Boulder and Golden. Which is the reason for the string of hoppers one sees fom the road, on the upper section of the Big 10 curves.

The 5398 looks very good for a lease motor.
Too bad they have lined out the RIo Grande. That sort of thing shouldn't happen!!

    Well,
Lets be glad it wasn't any worse.
Could have scribbled out the name instead! Or blocked it out and painted over in some lovely, horrendous color!
Of course, if they wanted to do it the RIGHT way, they'd repaint what's necessary, by giving it a basic dip job in a LARGE can of black paint!! :D [IMG]

Keep in mind: MY opinion only.

I almost wet myself when I saw that engine, then the red hit me, but it wasn't all that bad. [IMG]

There's still a bunch of these roaming the rails, but it's cool anyhow!

As promised, Jeremiah, here's the survivor GP30 I talked about earlier, captured in Denver near the UP shops.

It's sad when these locos retire and fade into history. When was this picture take William?
