Heck, I'm not a steam guy by any measure and I say keep 'em coming!

If I had a nickel for every time I got a little hot under the collar, then realized the other guy might not be saying what I thought he said, I'd have one HECK of a layout, that's for sure.

Really appreciate the videos and stuff you've been posting, Rick. From 1200 miles away, these are the best chance I have of screwing around with this particular big toy. :)

More screwing around, even if it has sexual implications but not applicable here. A teaser.

Ken, I would agree as it resembles some shots on my set of VHS videos.

This video popped up this morning. It shows the Big Boy deadheading through Caliente, Nevada and Weber Canyon. I don't think I have seen any other vid's with shots taken from the same angles.

Pretty sure this video is not one Jim W., from Trains, was able to capture. He was outside of Las Vegas on a knoll somewhere waiting for the hospital train.

Shots We Couldn't See When Tagging Along - Trains Live Streaming

One more shot from Las Vegas. This time I think Joe catches Jim W. on top of that knoll.

I set out on a mission to find and provide video of the trip from Colton, California to Cheyenne, Wyoming. I was not going to allow Trains and the subscriber only... days, ruin my fun of tagging along. Unless, I missed something you should have the trip as complete as I can make it. Howbeit in anything but chronological order. A shout out of thanks to all who took time out from their busy days to take their videos and posting them here on You Tube. What a gift.

One exception: On a previous thread I posted a link to the museum and the work that went on there to move #4014. Hopefully this works. Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 from Pomona, CA to Las Vegas, NV Here you will find some of the resources and videos I used here. I consider many of the guys and gals that participated as friends. A great group of fine Rail Enthusiast.

The smoke has almost cleared and this event is now moving into the history books. Oh, I'm not through...yet! If I see other videos of similar quality pop-up I will bring them here...or....you can. It's all in the name of fun! For some "Screwing Around" and I still don't like that inference! LOL

    Thanks for riding along.

One more shout out. Nick White was someone that posted video's of what he could find and posted them on You Tube. I was able to follow along with him all the action. Thanks Nick.

I really like how they so freely used the horn and whistle. Although some of it was for safety, it at times almost seems like a parade. UP sure raked in some fantastic PR along the way.

SoCalRailFanner submitted this video to You Tube.

See you what think ..... I don't think I could find a more fitting video to end this presentation.

Although the UP Big Boy #4014 isn't seen in this video it shows the arrival of the Hospital Train in Colton, CA. Personally I was glad to see that someone caught it.

Still waiting for those shop pictures the OP, John was hoping to take.

Thanks all for tuning in and I hope you enjoyed this.

Curious about that last video: anyone know the story behind the UP loco missing over half of the winged logo? That could be fun to model, just to get people to challenge you...

Also, the coal train looked like the cars were barely half full. Can someone explain that?

I didn't understand the term "Hospital Train" until I just realized that it was the M.A.S.H. unit and 4014 was the Patient...DOH !
Too Soon Old, Too Late Smart....

Might not have been coal. Possibly an ore of some kind. Some metal concentrates are very heavy, so less per car.

That was my first thought too, but durned if it doesn't look like coal.

Isn't copper concentrate also black? I know there used to be shipments between Montana and the southwest, via MILW and UP.

    You have a question?

Perhaps a day late and dollar short.

Eagle2, Agreeing with Ken but adding in another possibility. T aconite or Copper, may be the ore in the hoppers.

Hytec, Hospital train is nothing new. During the years following the demise of the steam engines railroads would tie a bunch of stoves, old heavy weights and other train equipment to make up a slow order train aka Hospital Train. Equipment due to be scrapped, torched and/or as we say to day recycled. Hauling this equipment off to the scrapper.

In the case of the UP's entourage of train equipment that escorted the #4014 back to Cheyenne Wyoming. Ed Dickens referred to the train as a Hospital Train or better said slow order train. They seldom traveled at over 25 miles per hour. Ed's reference is used on several occasions, some of those captures can be found in video's I submitted here.

Eagle2, A broken wing. Why not? All they are is a decal and it may have lost it's adhesion and broke off. No problem with modeling one of these. See my signature below.

To John aka dstjohn, A shout out of thanks for starting this thread May 14th, 2014, 11:04 AM

You have no idea how much I've enjoyed researching video's for this and a previous thread. Look at all the fun I had.

Kind of wishing those TB participants, who were able to be track side could of added their videos. Thankful for those who participated adding their commentary and questions. To all of you that tuned in but said nothing a shout out of appreciation. Don't be so shy next time. And before I forget a shout out of thanks to all those who submitted videos on You Tube. Thanks to all.

Salute to the Union Pacific, Ed Dickens and the Steam Crew for making this happen.

Still looking for John's photos of his tour through the shops in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Oh and to those who thought I was talking down to you. Not possible, I have a broken nose and there's no way I can hold it up in the air to snub you. :(
Are we there yet, can we see the Big Boy operating on his own steam?

I will be signing off now.

    There's More Big Boy News

Did you think we were done? It's time to follow-up.

I bumped into this next video on You Tube. I will let it speak for itself. Courtesy of Model Railroader, Insider Weekly.

http://mrv.trains.com/ David Popp catches MRVP host Drew Halverson in Kent Johnson's office stealing a sneak peek at video clips of Union Pacific's Big Boy no. 4014 steam locomotive on the move from California to Wyoming. Drew shares tales of his travels with fellow Trains magazine staffers and he even rolls a few clips, as submitted by David Popp.

Ok, so I was ticked off at them for excluding me on the feed. After all it was the subscribers to Trains, paying for the trip and I'm not.
Anyway, more to come as the time continuum moves ever forward.
