I think in the previous video by Chris B., he was clicking his own stills. I don't know how you can stop the background noises other then to dub something else in when editing. "Sexy"? Did you catch that. I had a fellow say he got a stick in his pants every time he saw a train. A what? I prefer to save that for the ladies. Each to his or her own...I suppose.
I have no idea who those kids belonged to. Just found them playing by the tracks and told them it was a dangerous place and it would be best if they went on home. I know, I come across as some kind of grouch but I was only looking out for their best interests.
Utah and More: One More Big Boy Video Toy Man Television, I found this character interesting. Not sure where he lives but I believe you can see in the background just about every fast food joint, out there. Kids on or near tracks is never a good idea. I was hoping to hear they were in a museum where the likely hood of a locomotive moving about didn't exist. Ok, that gives me my Big Boy FIX for the day. Enjoy!
Fitz, You are more then welcome. Kind of hoping our next focus can be on the Nickel Plate PA 190. I'd love to see the picture.
Here are two shots from "Pilawt" who lives in a condo that overlooks the approach to Portland Union station. He got these last night. I don't know how to contact him so will apologize for using his photos without permission.
Jim= What is the move ongoing we are seeing? How close is the PA to being an operable unit now? I recall seeing photos a while back of the prime mover being fired up.
That was the move from the Oregon Rail Heritage Center to Portland Union Station Friday night in preparation for the display at Amtrak's National Train Day, today. I didn't go, had too much else going on at home. I am not sure how close the PA is to operating under its own power. I know that the powerplant has been fired up, but I don't know if the wiring to the traction motors has been done. I know that those traction motor cables were among the things stolen from the Brooklyn roundhouse a few years ago.
That's a great capture. Wish I could of been there. No doubt the stove is fired up and making the pull. Thanks for sharing them with us. Does rail fanning ever get old? Not hardly. One more video and this one is from UP's Steam Crew. Did you wonder what was inside the passenger car and box cars? You guessed it, accommodations for the steam crew. Check it out.
I had a good idea what was in those cars, but this is the first time I can recall seeing any "tour" of the support train.
You might remember where I said, I wish UP had their own film crew. Don't get ahead of me here. Yes they did. Here is a link to those video's on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LowCok85XDY&list=PLh3l5IvpX5haUFK5n7yqfs2vIoq_wGTVe Sit back, relax and enjoy. Better then....well....we shall see. Signing off here for now.
Did I read somewhere the diesels, 4014, 4884, were inactive and put back into service just for this task?
Signing off was short lived. I thought I heard Ed Dickens, say they were taken out of service to pull the hospital train. There again that may have been the Toy Train Television guy. I'm going to have to go back to find where and what Ed, did say. Like you I thought I heard Ed say, the two diesels had been taken out of service. I think he meant regular service to pull the hospital train. You can double check this by checking out the videos I've collected here. You might have to bump the clarity up to 480 pixels. I have to do that on my computer otherwise the pictures come through blurred. It's possible there is more to come so stay tuned. Union Pacific's #4014 on You Tube, as taken by their own film crew. Let's try that link one more time: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLh3l5IvpX5haUFK5n7yqfs2vIoq_wGTVe That's it.
This is all part of an evil plot we have working now. Like the old, old horror "B" grade movies. You cannot escape...
I think this response by a person I believe to be a UP employee will clear the air. UPNW2-1083

""Neither unit was stored before the Big Boy move. They were both in active service and were suppose to have both been on the move out of the fairgrounds in February but only the 4884 was available as the 4014 was involved in an accident and the drawbar and coupler pocket were being replaced at North Little Rock.-BMT"" I can't find a video where Ed Dickens even refers to the locomotives or their history. Sorry about that.
OK. Thanks for that info. Like you I had listened to someone, elsewhere, make mention of their status. Obviously they misinformed us.
One more video, Ogden, Utah an aerial view.
Ken and Russell and of course all of you tuned in here, Here's one just for you guys and gals...salute.
