Jim F. aka fitz, Good explanation, you were able to fill in the blanks and add in details, I missed. And they call me the rivet counter around these here parts or as the mountain guys like to say, neck of the woods.
    Thanks.

You are more then welcome. Besides look at all the fun I had.

    Take Care.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Don't say that out loud. Aside from the recovery time ahead, someone might hear you. You do know there is a license required now to have fun? And it is taxable according to the amount of enjoyment? They multiply the fine by the number of trains you own.... Yikes!

I don't think I'm alone when I say I can't wait to see the #4014 The Big Boy, under his own steam. Am I right?

Just a tantalizer...but...don't enjoy it to much. Save some of that for later.

    The way it was.

Before Pentrex bought them out, Video Rails had a VHS out on the Big Boys. I recall seeing it on YouTube a few years ago. Perhaps it is on YT somewhere? It had a really nice scene showing a BB slowly snaking through a crossover.

OK. So what Rick has linked is a part of that set. Hmmm. Those scenes I am recalling must then be on another one of the three.

So, after your next station, will you be trying to get back to Cheyenne? They should be well along with the rebuild by then. Maybe you'd get to see the initial runs first hand!

    One Last Glance Back

I think you guys are right. I've linked a teaser on You Tube as part of the UP Big Boy VHS set.

As the move of X4014, moves off into our memories and becomes a part of railroad history. Well, how about one more glance at it?

From the Union Pacific Railroad, Memories Of The Move. Through their eyes.

As I wipe some wetness from the corners of my eye. Must be allergies.

What I want to see is the Big Boy, under his own steam, up front and tied in behind the diesels that brought him home. Wouldn't that be something?

To all our friends and families at Union Pacific...SALUTE!

Let us hope you are not allergic to steam engines...

Yes, it would be something. And even better if there were no diseasels in sight!

Oh, I know you thought I was done. So did I!

I couldn't resist. However, I'm actually offended at some of his remarks as in "Screwing Around" or "Major Screw-ups" and his application. He more or less makes the steam crew at UP, rail fans and model railroaders out to be the ultimate screw ups. He includes himself so...well...I don't know does that make it right? To put us all down...or...is he? Is he just putting a voice to how many around us, think and see us. He ignores the PR and benefits UP will get. Or is it, that his program is about screwing around with different toys? Anyway, he doesn't do a bad job of covering the action and it is professionally done. Guessing it is a TV show, aired on a Sunday mornings.

Sorry this isn't quite what I had in mind for ending this here. See what you think.

    It is what it is.

Good thing this event is winding down. If it lasted much longer, I'd be afraid you'd burst!

What do you mean winding down? LOL

Unless something better comes along...well...it will, you can count on it.

    Been fun!

He sure had some good equipment to produce that whole thing. I think "screwing around" might be the theme of his network. If you ignore the last few minutes, he really did a great job. Good camera work, and good narration.

He mentioned next weeks show and chasing the Big Boy. Mentioning a roundhouse he wants to show us. Who said we were done screwing around here?

I will be looking forward to it.

I don't know. It was a nice video. Mostly professionally done, but I do think he could have balanced the audio a little better. I kept having to adjust my speakers down when he was in the car and then (way!) back up for the other parts.

I disagree with you on the "screwing around" part. I don't think he meant "screwing around" in the sense of "screwing up". I think he meant it more like "having fun doing something just for the heck of it". I agree he didn't really cover the PR angle of UP's steam program, but I think he meant the "screwing around" stuff to be more along the lines of how sci fi and comic book and computer types have taken back the term "geek" and made it a point of pride (or, for that matter, Southerners have taken over "redneck"). I don't know where the guy is from or anything, and haven't watched any of his other videos. Around where I live and grew up, "screwing around" is pretty much what you are doing when you're doing something just for fun, not for work, not being particularly serious (in the "having a funeral or doing your taxes" sense), not because you have to, but just... because. One might be "screwing around" while trying to tune up your 57 Chevy, or cooking some hot dogs over a fire pit, or trying to rebuild an arcade game, or experimenting with some unusual materials while tying a fly, or whatever. One might be working very hard and very seriously while screwing around of course... it's the purpose of the effort that differentiates it from "work".

Something about the way he was talking about the "high art of screwing around" and how UP was doing this simply "because it is cool". Doesn't sound like he's making fun of us to me. He did make the comment about how we as a group tend to take things a bit too far, but that is sort of the definition of being a "geek" about something.

Just my read on it. he spent 80-90% of the clip practically drooling over 4014 before doing his commentary at the end, so...

Twin dad, I appreciate your response here. You aren't the first dad with twins that I've come across. Never mind my twin out there somewhere, who loves trains.

I must admit it's my read as well. After listening to the video more then once, I was pretty sure he was talking about how cool this has been for him, playing with extreme toys and what would a Big Boy be? Which in turn allows you and I to have loads of fun here on TrainBoard.

About funerals and the likes, I know all about them. I'd of rather been a railroader "Rail". True!

So, look forward to more screwing around...he isn't done nor am I....yet!

How about someone else inserting their favorite video or pictures? Anyone?
