Close to home in Pasadena, Ca., is a model railroad club that has seen years of operation in three different locations.

This is a clip from our 70th Anniversary DVD which is currently available for purchase. The next best thing to visiting the layout, as submitted by PMRRC.

Nice and easy to watch. Good tease and yes I want to see more.

This Pentrex Video was shot in 1990 at the Pasadena Model Railroad Club. It was available on VHS, but no longer available. Keep in mind, the video footage is over 20 years old and both the railroad and some of the cast members featured have changed quite a bit, as submitted by and courtesy of PMRRC.

Great videos; love the way the video switches from the real thing, to the outside of the model, then to the "cab view"! We were at the Pasadena club last year, and believe it or not they're still running old-school DC!

But uh, the Amtrak train departs with its locomotives "elephant-style", then later it magically transforms to back-to-back. Still awesome video, though. Thanks for posting!

    John,

Must be that 0-5-0 switching move so many talk about. New units put on, serviced and ready to go at end of track? Just thinking out loud.

Yep, Analog DC still has it's place in model railroading. Most club layouts are finding it's an easy conversion or add on when it comes to DCC. The San Diego clubs are making the switch and in most cases it's a simple add on. Allowing them to operate on Analog one weekend and DCC the next. A flip of a DPDT and you are good to go.

Are you ready for another video.

Operations night at the local model railroad club or by invitation to a private layout. Nothing like it. Should you get invited don't turn it down. Loads of fun.

The 3rd Thursday of every month is "Trained Operator" night at K-10. Engineers are assigned a job, with a job sheet and the entire layout is under the control of a dispatcher. Radio headphones are used to communicate with the dispatcher. Nothing moves without his permission. On this evening in Feb 2012, Crispy is running the Ore train with a number of cars to set out and collect at the ore dock. Andrew's CP units are a bit too much power for a short mixed freight, but with numerous set-outs and pick-ups to accomplish he was kept busy for a couple of hours. As submitted by Crispy's Dad.

Sounds like a father and son evening. How cool!

In last weeks show I misinformed you that Jim Heppner's railroad was Gary Peterson's railroad. Oops. Let's take a look at both railroads and check them out. On the coldest day of the year too. Both railroads are used for "realistic operation", an interesting system that lets several people work together to run the layout as though it were a real railroad. Submitted by: Toy Man Television.

I have to ask, how many guys and gals are there out there who are doing the same thing? Here in the San Bernardino Mountains we have a similar round robin group of guys and gals. Loads of fun as we help each other plan, work on and eventually get to the point we can operate the various layouts under construction. The only problem is, we are all aging much faster then any of us intended. Sigh!

It's going to be your turn to post various railfanning videos of model railroads here on this thread. Easy as pie to do so. Why? I will be backing off. Called it a vibe I'm getting and have been getting for awhile...call it a hunch. I don't own this thread, I didn't buy it from Charlie. I've said this before, "You can Hi-jack an airplane but you can't hi-jack a thread". So post the videos you find interesting. It be up to you to keep this going.

Viewing numbers are up and I want to give a shout out of thanks to those of you who have tuned in. I hope you are enjoying the videos and found a way and means to view others. Maybe you got an idea or two.

Do see the other's I've started here. There's a thread for Newbies in the How To department, those wanting to update or revamp their layouts and a few other's.

I never meant to gain anything other then some fun for me by submitting the threads I have.

    You all take care now.

    Have fun!

I will be away for awhile as I have things I need to take care of. Keep the video's coming and railfan a friends or your layout and bring the video's here. Don't forget good lighting, mic up everyone and move the camera slowly keeping it in focus.

    Have fun!

Time on my hands while I wait for parts and the right lighting equipment for my CCTV. Gosh, that's turning into a major project.

A time out is needed and what better way then going to the Hobby Shop. Wait until you see this!

    Operations Night

That was quite the trip to the LHS. Got to wonder who is the financial backer.

I had a family excursion to Disneyland, Anaheim, Ca., and all the fun you can have. Rode the trains, plural. The place was crawling with people. Crowded to the point where the lines had waiting times up to 45 minutes for a three minute ride. True!

Old news but nonetheless a confirmation. On the way back from Disneyland, I decided to check out one of my old haunts and swung into San Dimas, Ca. As is typical of kids today, the sons have shut down Train Stop, no regard for the business there dad built. What remains is a empty shell of a building. Sad to see.

Moving right along. Here is another video, Operations Night.

This is a new operations video on the N Scale Union Pacific Railroad Geneva Subdivision. This video and the one to follow, covers the operations of the APRGM, an autorack train from Proviso to GEMCO yard in Van Nuys, CA.

My two cents. Operations Night, can be where you operate your layout alone or you invite fellow model railroaders over to run the trains. Either way can bring you hours of railroading satisfaction.

The Slim Gauge Guild in Pasadena

This week we visit the Slim Gauge Guild in Pasadena California to see their great layout. Or layouts, because they have both an Sn3 and a HOn3 layout skillfully blended together in such a way a way as to use the scenery for both yet hide each from the other so that the viewer can never see both scales at the same time. The prototype is the Denver and Rio Grande Western with some standard gauge in a three rail interchange.

Don't I wish I lived somewhere closer to Pasadena.

Green screen can add another dimension to railfanning your model railroad. Ride along with Josta and see his layout through the video magic of green screen. Through his eyes looking out the windows of a dome vista.

A tour of Jim Vail's HOn3 Glenwood and Black Creek RR. Jim is a frequent contributor to the Narrow Gauge & Shortline Gazette, and his extensively detailed model railroad is simply incredible. Most of the narrow gauge rolling stock is based on D&RGW prototypes. Lots of scratchbuilt structures can be seen. There is also a standard-gauge line, mostly following Southern Pacific prototypes. Details on the layout can be found here: http://www.x2011west.org/layoutsTable...

It's a long video, but even at 20 minutes, it still doesn't cover the entire layout.
