Layout is DCC, units were all analog. We ran the 75 car train up the hill using 5 on the head end, 3 in the middle, and two on the rear. Since the train was too long for the reverse loop at the top, we doubled the train at Marcel siding and put all of the units on the head end for the down hill run. The only mishap was at cliff and is pictured in the Derailments thread. Derailment Photos Santa Fe had just 1 GP40, obtained from the TP&W merger, (along with their only bay window cabeese). The unit was rebuilt, repainted...and shortly thereafter wrecked and scrapped. Brian
Here's another angle on my Santa Fe GP30 shot posted yesterday. I really like the following photo, came out well:
Well someone had to show the GP20s. In the lead is Arizona California 2003 and an Arizona Eastern patch job.
Good looking geeps there BALOU LINE ! Here is a UP consist with SD40M-2 in the lead, a GP50, and a "We Will Deliver" snoot SD40-2, getting up to speed on the UP main line.
Thanks Paul, When I built the layout I never thought of the picture taking aspect of the hobby. So it is a fun challenge to try to make pictures work.
Hey Red Rock, how did you get the SD70 BNSF to handle that radius? What is the radius? Mine's greater than that and it derails every time!
Steve, I haven't had any problems with my MACs. And that one is one of my best runners. Maybe the wheel gauge on yours is off a little? Good luck with it.
Here's some shots from a running session we had this weekend. first, a close-up and a running shot they're a little blurry, but it is an action shot [ February 22, 2005, 08:04 AM: Message edited by: beast5420 ]
UP 3300 SD40-2, UP 5039 SD50, UP 9771 C44-9W, and UP 2820 SD40-2(rebuilt SD40) bringing up the rear. I finished my 10"X32" double main photo diorama and wanted to give it a test run.
Great idea. I did try to make it rather "open" so I could add and take away details as the mood suited, in an effort to keep it from always looking like the same old stretch of track. Thanks for your comments.
Here's one to keep this going, but it's probably not what you would call prototypical. But hey, in DC, you run with whatever units match in motor speed
Ian, That scene is fantastic and the vasdt amount of foilage sets the scene off. Great to see some Eastern modelling, look forward to seeing more shots of the layout.
