at first I thought you were cheating and took a real photo but then I saw you backdrop and that is just some amazing work
I suppose there could have been a derailment that shut down the MKT line around Katy, Texas causing the Flyer to divert over onto the ATSF Galveston Sub at Sealy down to Rosenberg and pull onto the Sunset at Tower 17. Once in Houston they could have got back on the Katy at Tower 13, Eurika Junction.
Well, getting slight off the topic for a minute here... I have an MKT train order copied at Eureka. (I believe the date is 1978.). Would this have been done at that Tower 13 location? Or was there a separate depot/train order office there?
The tower was closed in 1966 so I guess the order was written at Tower 26. Edit: The big freight yard that the MKT maintained in Houston was called Eureka Yard, so it was probably written at the yard office.
Logistically it would not have made much sense to write train orders for Eureka at Tower 26. It was over 5 miles away as the crow flies and at the junction of two other rail lines. The tower structure lasted long after it was replaced by control cabinets and was demolished in 2001. http://www.towers.txrrhistory.com/026/026.htm
Sounds good to me. I am unfamiliar with the layout and distances there. Haven't even been in Texas for over forty years.
Always some great modeling shown here! I have a few trains posed for a photo shoot, saw this thread and, well..... had to add a pic or two.:funny: MP mike with loksound crossing the drywash called Skull Creek waiting for a final rash of detailing and finish work. Ten-wheeler, also loksound equipt, on the curve headed for Shadow Canyon. Mogul 7 pulling some hot reefers through the cut leading out of Cedar yard.
