Hey everyone. Over this last weekend I noticed the forums getting slower and slower to respond. It’s like I’m on dial up again from 1997. I have tried it on 4 different devices with 3 different browsers and all the same so I don’t think it’s me. Oh, and other websites are just like normal on all of my devices. Anyone else notice this?
Definitely slow going now. Seems it's ok when you first log in but starts slowing down when you go to a thread.
It's slow enough here to time out the connection attempt on my older computer and tie up my newer one to the point that a ten minute visit takes an hour.
honest truth, Trainboard is huge. The database is a monster, it is 8GB, and has about 20,000,000 records in it. The only time the site runs they way I like is when I reboot the server. The DB is SO big (how big is it?), I can't optimize it anymore.
yup sloow an no go fer me... but now its up an running 4:04 pm central time here in the states 8 gig is not that big now if were in TB thats huges
let's put this into perspective, a database is literally nothing but text, and the entire novel of War And Peace is 1.2MB. It is constantly being read and written to, and if this DB was on one of the shared servers that I work on, it would have been disabled until the site owner shrunk it down to under a gig and a million records. A database this size is really a whale. I have been referring this DB to colleagues as Willy The Whale.
It is working crisply right now but was slow as molasses in winter a little while ago. It seems to work well for a while but then bog down, then speed up, bog down, and on and on.
