I can never get enough of the Zebra Stripe action. Waited long enough for those models to be produced. AT&SF/ATSF/Santa Fe in action. My favorites.
Thought I'd keep this thread alive...a Santa Fe hotshot heads east and uphill out of Tunnel 5, deep in the Tehachapi's. It's quite a hike in from Bealville to this remote location!
Dave N, great shot. Looks like you've done a super job on those C44-9Ws, including painting up the anti-climber and walkways and railings that Kato missed.
I'll add some more Santa Fe C44-9W shots as well (although frankly, I like Dave N's shots above more than mine - he's got more Dash 9 Warbonnet locos in his lashup than I do ! ) An improvement over my previous photos (although I forgot to light the headlights).
Closeup of the nose, after painting the anti-climber, nose window, walkways, railings: Closeup of the sides of the locos: This is a great thread, let's keep it going, Santa Fe fans.
Looking good Alister! John - yes, the small details make a big difference toward making the Dash 9's look better. Another one that I think adds alot is to paint the headlight frame silver, vs. the stock red from Kato. Keep the Santa Fe shots coming!
my SF units include a Kato RS2 "Zebra Stripe" and a Life-Like E6 or E7 Red Warbonnet. as for modern units, I have an Athern BNSF SD75M That was from the SF:tb-biggrin: and a custom made ES44DC in BNSF's new "Powerbar" scheme, Kato. Just to get another unit to my BNSF train, I have, like I mentioned, A SD75M, an ES44DC, a, soon to be BNSF, BN SD60M, Just to finish this unit train off, Does anyone know A good 6-Axle engine in the SF Warbonnet? I would Really like the red bonnet but if I must I'll get the yellow/blue. Nice pictures everyone.
Dave, after you mentioned the above, I went back to my library of C44-9W photos, and sure enough, the headlight frame is silver in every one of the photos - I never noticed! (here's a good photo of this silver frame around the nose headlights of the Santa Fe C44-9Ws, for those of you wondering what we're talking about): http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=158877 Dang it . Gotta get out the paint and the 000 brush and get to work on my N scale models above.... Thx for bringing it to my attention !
ATSF91716 ATSF91716 TOFC with trailer. I detailed the car with styrene strips and weathered. Thought I had some Santa Fe stuff somewhere.
From the "Somewhere West" modular N scale layout, scenery by Lucien Wiss and layout owned by Daniel Roth: You can see more photos of this layout at either of the following: atsf_arizona's Photo Galleries at pbase.com 1stUS_ModelRR_ConvGermanys photos and albums on webshots Hurray Santa Fe!
Now that's a nice shot John. I like the way the earth color sets off those red and silver warbonnets.
Kit bashed Kato smooth side chair car made to resemble Santa Fe car. Built by St. Louis Car Company, the 3071 was the second light weight car purchased by the Santa Fe. It was ordered and delivered at the same time as Budd car 3070 in 1937 for evaluation before ATSF ordered any more light weigh cars. Santa Fe decided to go with Budd and the rest was history. This was the only car ordered from St. Louis Car Co. It was delivered in a coach green paint scheme, immediately repainted two tone gray for service on the Scout and in 1947 painted in the shadow line (simulated fluted sides) paint scheme show here.
The remote hikes and long climbs usually pay off. Yours sure did! Very nice shot; good elevation, gorgeous curve, matched power (save for that SD75 in there)--what more could anyone ask for! Very nice Zebras! I can attest to the challenge in matching the stripes all up right... I ended up reding it because I did it wrongt he first time! Serves me right for not triple-checking my work with proto photos!
