Anyone have pictures or info on Hell Gate Bridge? I am thinking of the one in New York City. I think it was built as a train bridge and has several tracks. Why is it significant? Oh, well! Just a little google search: http://bridgepros.com/projects/HellGate/HellGate.htm [ October 21, 2005, 03:27 PM: Message edited by: sapacif ]
The famous Hell's Gate Bridge used by trains going from the Bronx to Queens. The continuing route will take trains through Queens and then through a tunnel to Manhattan's Pennsylvania Station. http://www.polar.sunynassau.edu/~fanellis/botanical.html
From what I have heard these spans don't exist anymore. I can't confirm this because CSX hasn't published the extent of their Hurricane Katrina damage and the US 90 roadway through the bayous near the spans was wiped out also. I'll be going across the I-10 Lake Pontchartrain Twin Spans on 11/1, so might be able to see what is left or being rebuilt. But don't count on it because the CSX Rigolets spans are about 5 miles south of I-10 and it may be raining. [ October 21, 2005, 04:55 PM: Message edited by: Hytec ]
Hello, all, Here's some research from back in 2004 on the Santa Fe's Peavine Line. (I don't know if all the URLs still work).
