This is as close as I have ever come to catching upper and under shots at the C&S overpass in Chey-oming. Note the UP manifest at the signals in the distance. Just 30 seconds later.....
Boy, I bet that was a sight to behold....sorry I missed it. Do you know of any photos or websites that show or discuss that trip?
Hank- I do not recall the occasion. Was there a World's Fair type event in New Orleans circa the early 1990's? I remember pictures in Railfan & Railroad Magazine. There was a video made of the trip. I also recall a clip of this run, at the end of a video I have, (Argh! Which one?), advertising the VHS tape. The camera was on board, a few cars back of the loco, as they crossed the HPL Bridge. Seems to me a title such as "Daylight to The Fair." But do not recall the production company. Pentrex? Maybe a search of their web site still lists it? Or maybe someone has a better memory than mine?! Boxcab E50
You jogged my memory. I remember seeing UP 844 at the New Orleans World's Fair in '89, but I don't remember SP 4449, although I'm sure it was there. I never gave it a thought that 844 had to cross the HPL Bridge....DUH!
Yep, the old C&S thru town runs over a long fill: (very likely similar to this shot, is the view from that Super 8)
My curiousity was boiling like mad. So, I looked. Found it. Pentrex. "By Daylight to the Fair." (1984) I was way off in recalling the time frame. But at least I was correct on who filmed it. Boxcab E50
'84...? Good Grief, I had assumed that my grandson had accompanied us to the Fair in a stroller, and he was born in '88....guess not, Huh? I really should have remembered mo' bettah. Our Barbershop Quartet sang at the Fair a bunch of weekends. Memories sure seem to fade after 20 years, don't they.... I'll try to find a copy of that Pentrex. Seeing 4449 coming off the HPL with a load would be worth watching.
Yup. Their web site says 1984. I also thought it was later. And yes. They fade. Bummer! If only we could mentally capture, and then place special moments into a special, dated storage bank of our brains. Oh well. Boxcab E50

Harper's Ferry is interesting. There are several piers visible from former bridges. I presume the bridges here still operate?
