To quote the immortal Joe Dirt, "Dang!!"...believe that's an appropriate response for the Southeast! ) Are you using oils or chalks for weathering? Joe MTL
The weathering was done with chalks. The bracing was highlighted with Floquil Rust. The kit was originally all black, so to get the different scratches and rotten board look after it was weathered I took a sharp exacto knife and scratched the paint off in different places, going all the way to the black in places, and just removing weathering in others. Then dulcoated the whole car.
Beautiful work Jerry! Those Dimi kits were way ahead of their time, and you have done them perfect justice. Cheers, Gary
Next I am going to take some stock IM sugar beet cars and remove the 'SP' markings and put the Holly Sugar reporting marks on them, about 3 or 4 cars. Also have a couple more IM cars and two of the new MT cars that need loading and I will have a 30 car train.
Those are looking really sweet! I hope we'll have a new runby when you hit 30. Best, Gary BTW, it is amazing what a difference the FVM wheels make.
Beaten up, dilapitaded, smelly sugar beet cars! wink: Dang Jerry, That is nice. Beat them beet cars up. You've all but captured my memories of those awful looking S.P. sugar beet cars. With a few foreign visitors tossed in for good measure. Not sure where they came from? As a youngster, my Dad took me over to the Holly Sugar Plant in Salinas, Ca. The stinch was atrocious. Even the train cars after they were unloaded had a distinctive, bad odor. Did you get the odor right...I can smell them from here. LOL Nice work...they look good. You guys don't mind the art work...do you?
Hummmmm.....scented loads. You may be on to something Rick! Working on three more right now. Will get a run-by soon. (My soon could be days! LOL)
So I am at work today, sitting in the yard thinking about how I am going to do more of the sugar beet cars relettering, when I look over and notice the different types of relettering on some real cars.
