Aspen Gold Andy and all tuned in, I really like the detail on your Aspen Gold Units. Nice work. Here are some pictures of three units I purchased before Aspen Gold could be found. The three locomotives are custom paint jobs. The F9 A&B were originally on Minitrix Chassis and the F7 is a Life Like, Bev Bel paint job. The Minitrix F9 shells are now riding on Life Like Chassis's. I'am sure you will remember the old spring a part chassis where the weight would jump out at you and parts had a tendency to fly, never mind the broken wires. However, they run good together as a set. I'm sure our die hard D&RG fans will pick out the oops's. Have fun with this and remember you can't hurt my feelings...to much...grin! The background? A clock picture. A lady friend of mine purchased it while visiting Calico, CA just outside of Barstow, CA. I thought I'd get fancy and give you something to talk about. It appears that my camera reset itself. Of course I wouldn't make a mistake like that. Well maybe. Anyway the F7 in the single stripe is barely visible in this picture. Looks like I need to reshoot the pictures to a smaller something or other. Gosh, everything has to be so technickel. >:-0
Second Attempt to Post Pictures HemiAdda2d and all tuned in, Good to see someone's layout at the same point in construction as mine. I noted that you solder your wires to the track pretty much like I do. Your units look good. Does awe-inspiring fit here? I think so. D&RGW 5349 that's a great shot. Looking good. (Never mind what I wrote here originally). My first attempt to post pictures met with some sort of resistance. Something about oversized and I don't know how to make them any smaller. Maybe, someday I will eventually learn how to post a picture here. Grin! Enjoy and have fun. Edited add on: Second attempt to post pictures here...Let's hope this works. The first picture is of three Aspen Gold, F type units...custom paint jobs. The two on the left are F9's A&B, in the four stripe livery. I purchased these from Pacific Coast Hobbies, Riverside, CA., back when Aspen Gold, wasn't available. Painter unknown although I would like to learn his ID. The F9's are Minitrix shells now riding on Life Like chassis's. To the right, the F7 in single stripe livery is a Bev Bel custom paint job. The shell and chassis is Life Like. More details will be added as soon as I can get the parts ordered. The second picture is looking at the front end of the F9 A unit. In this picture you may note a oop's. Not that it matters a whole lot...I will run it anyway. How about that? I actually posted two pictures here on TB without using the Thumbnail process. Excuse me while I pat myself on the back...grin!
What method did you use to weather your locomotive? It's fantastic! I'm about to engage on the great weathering journey, and I'd sure like my tunnel motors to turn out like yours! :teeth::teeth:
I'm about to embark on scenery, but I think I'm going to repaint my rails a rusty color. I thought it would be enough, but looks monotone with the ties. Awe-inspiring? If you say so... There are plenty of modelers that have superior skills, but I won't complain too much! Glad you enjoyed it! I'm guessing a variety of methods: drybrush, chalks, washes.... Inquiring minds....
I will second the request on how did you weather that TM. Looks great, please do tell step by step, with photos would be a great add to this post Thanks
Step 1 clear cote with Testers Dullcote. Step 2 weather with pastel chalks. Step 3 seal pastels with another cote of Dullcote. Step 4 more rounds of pastels followed by Dullcote. More rounds are needed when applying pastels over dark colors like D&RGW engines. Step 5 more weathering with Floquil paint and an airbrush.
Stunning models throughout the thread, now I have a DSLR i'll take some more photos of the layout for a seperate thread but here is a bit more gold....enjoy. .......I haven't forgotten the article I promised about this!
Sorry to bring up an old thread but here is my Aspen gold so far. I have some GP30s & 35's to repaint. A SD45 in the paint shop still post pics soon.
That's a good looking caboose you got there Nick! No need to apologize. It is nice to see older threads revived. Ben
