Bob- The Milwaukee actually had an orange, maroon, and black paint scheme for passenger service. Problem is, it went away. When they signed on to take over Cities trains east of Omaha. After C&NW was smart enough to bail out. Boxcab E50
Hey, the E-unit is in the paint shop!! She'll be out in a week!! It's gonna be orange, but the GM for Golden Pacific RR won't say the exact scheme style.
here's a photo I found on rrforums of the unit as it was heading for tacoma. picture taken by Ted Curphey
Pic link works for me. Looks like condition of unit isn't too bad. A bit of cleaning and new paint. Would like to see it when finished!
Rode Behind 36a I got some pix of 36a just before boarding the Hiawatha. I would like to see it running in ANY color. PS This my very first post.
Welcome To TrainBoard! You mention pictures of this unit? Any chance we can see them? The 36A will soon be running. Which is great news. Boxcab E50
I think painting it UP harbor gray, red and armor yellow ( I know some people hate it) would cost less to do, i.e. paint on site and such, than doing a one time mix of orange and black or orange, maroon and black.
How can anyone dislike authentic colors? I understand this unit never had the earlier paint job. Why not paint it the way it was historically? Historical correctness is much more interesting than whether someone "likes" an incorrect paint job. Rail historians are an annoying group, when given the opportunity to nitpick about paintjobs, been there. But hey, who has to listen to em anyway. Heilung
I know the "Borg" makes model railroad company's pay a certain percentage to paint there stuff UP colors, what would it cost to paint that E-unit in thier colors?!?! mg:
A dislike of the borg, (not worthy of a capitol "b"), past and present, is one reason folks daydream of other colors. Boxcab E50
Well really it's a historal "Paint" and not lettered "Union Pacific RR" with the UP logo it's "THE MILWAUKEE ROAD" with the Milw logo. If the borg was to try and make everybody who "painted things" gray and yellow with red lettering pay for it I don't think thay get very far i.e. yellow cabs( yellow body with black letters) DHL I think (yellow body red lettering) and how many X-UP units are still running around with lease reporting marks and the Union Pacific lettering with a stripe across it
It's a Star Trek thing. 'The Borg' is some being, or civilization that wants to wipe everything out. 'It is futile to resist, you will be assimilated' is one of the mottos. Union Pacific has been likened to the Borg, thanks to its attempts to gobble up all the railroads in the west. They grabbed the Katy, MoPac, WP, SP, D&RGW, C&NW, among others in their conquest. I dislike the way they do it, and the way the trademark things just so we have to pay extra. And I'm a D&RGW modeler. Yikes.
But yet the BNSF does not really care what the model makers do with the old, NP,GN,SP&S,CB&Q,AT&SF,C&S and such, with paint and lettering models. But allmost every model railroader wants to have some kind of UP or lines taken over by UP modeled on their layout so there lawers go after the model makers and demand payment for the use of UP logo and colors of past and current roads owned by UP or off to court they go!
Well, just drove by CEECO an hour ago on way home and there she was, in yellow and grey. Looks nice, especially without ditchlights or anything modern on her! Just needs the emblems now. :teeth: Are they going to run those double decker cars I think someone mentioned? Cause if so, it'll look just like the Milwaukee Road "scoots" that were back in the Chicago suburbs for commuters!
