Who says that the real merger has to happen?
    Why not model it anyways...

Well, I was modeling the Santa Fe and Burington Northern as co-owners and operators of the AOW before there was ever talk about BNSF or SF/SP for that matter. I like the CN/IC combo and I'm thinking of adding some run-throughs from the New Orleans-Baton Rouge area. Hummmm? I don't know.... [IMG]

I think that this happens in real life too. I remember seeing D&H lash-ups going through Lawrence to Portland complete with N&W cabeese just before Guilford painted them all drab gray. What a site... a MEC U25B along with D&H Alco's, and B&M Blue Geeps.
I have some great pics of Lawrence back in '85. I din't know that they were all the same company at that time.

Maxwell, Do you have trains from all of those roads on your layout? I decided to justify the existance of locos from some of the fallen flags of the BN because I used to model GN, NP in HO Scale.

Here are the roads I have finnaly decided on (updated from my earlier post).

BNSF - Includes BN,ATSF,NP,GN, and a couple of CB&Q units.

UP - Includes SP, MOP, WP, C&NW

Wisconsin Central - branch line operations, very limited.

Other roads to visit sometimes - CN,CP/SOO,CSX,NS and other appearances if locos are available.

P.S. Maxwell, Do you have Issues? [IMG] [IMG]

Try Hobby stores in Canada, stuff, for the most part, sells alot slower. I believe, but am not sure that Central Hobbies in Vancouver has some [IMG] www.central-hobbies.com

I've had the following roads apper on the BNSF/AOW: BNSF, BN, SF, CB&Q, GN, NP, SP&S, MILW, UP, MP, SP, CN&W, MKT, RI, C&O, B&O, N&W, SOU, NS, MLR, PC, NYC, PRR, CR, NKP, WM, WAB, GM&O, IC, ICG, CN, CP, WC and many others I can't think of. Of course, It's an N-Trak Module so we have steam run over the BNSF/AOW every once in a while. Remember, the Aranas Odessa & Western is not a real railroad, but neither is the Cache Valley & Northern, we see trains from them too. But you know what seems to be missing? I bet E-8 does, FRISCO! I've never seen any Frisco units on the modules! BUMMER! [IMG]
Now, to answer your second question: No, I don't have issues, that would be RoyalBlue... [IMG]

I think this is a Train Board first, and if every one responds to this, then maybe we will hit 4! [IMG]
Now all we need is a topic with 100 replies [IMG]

Being an NTRAKer I really get to model more roads than those who are not [IMG].Darn that was fun [IMG]. Besides my own Grande Valley units I also model
    CPRail
    CSX
    Norfolk Southern
    Chessie
    Santa Fe
    Burlington Northern
    BNSF
Conrail(the Grande Valley has bought some of their surplus locos)
    Southern Pacific
    Union Pacific
    plus
Southern Belt (a friends private roadname)
Sunset Valley (Bruce Chubbs with his kind permission)
Oh yeah and Pere Marquette in the 90s(you should see the looks those PM dash 8s get at a show.

I am modeling the Utah Railway and the Uintah railway, as well as a free lanced railway called the Dorado and silver mountain. Most of it will be freelanced for fun, but I like the Utah Railway stuff to make it look good.

Our club layout is freelanced but that lets us run whatever we like.
Much of my roster is Milwaukee Road 1947-1960 but there's a bit of C&NW, Rock and Soo line in there as well some steam and newer hood units.
The other guys run CB&Q, Illinois Central and Canadian National.

Holy brought back from the dead post :)

Well let's see the last time I posted on this thread was in 2000. I was still in my first marriage living in the house I later "Donated" to her and was planning on building a large N scale layout with BNSF, UP as the major roads with cameos from others.

Fast Forward Six Years to 2006.
I am remarried (Marriage 2.0....the upgrade) Live in Saint Paul in another house. I am planning on building a medium sized layout in N scale with BNSF and UP as the major roads with some medium CP traffic and a train or two from Amtrak. So I guess nothing has changed in the model railroad sense of things :)

Well ok, my rolling stock collection is up by at least 900%. Back then I owned maybe eight locomotives. Today I am pushing 100. with well over 300 cars. My knowledge level is ten fold as to what it was six years ago despite not having built the layout. Most of this is tinkering with temp layouts and of course Trainboard has been a huge education for myself.

I have always been interested in the big class one lines. However, lately I am finding myself fascinated with smaller lines such as the TCW and Duluth Misabee (which is now CN). This is dangerous thinking for me as I have a huge investment in my class one lines and no room to even think about doing a shortline in combination with my class one line. hmmmmm maybe I could have a cameo of the TCW or DM&I :)

    DANGER DANGER :)

    Oh yeah,
I forgot to add that I went through four differnt jobs during this same time frame (laid off of three of them one a year). I went from a decent paid IT nerd in the civilian sector to serving AGR in the Army National Guard as a Mortar Sergeant / Unit Administrator. I also moved four times since that last post (been in Saint paul since 2002. Bought the current house July 2005.)

And I wonder why I have not built the layout yet :).....geese, I have not really pondered this but that is allot of change in six years!! :)

Long Live Trainboard.....my one constant (and my addiction to trains)

I've got a little bit of eastern and western roads on the shelf right now. I'm limited to Amtrak, CR, CSX, SF, BNSF, LMX, and UP (Desert Storm SD40-2 for the time being, but the list will grow in the not to distant future. I'm sure I'll be adding NS, BN, DRGW, CNW, and maybe some SP tunnel motors. It all depends on my buying motive at the time....

I model D&RGW in ~1987. I can/will fudge the date a bit to fit certain trains as well; like the Rio Grande Zephyr. I wasn't around when this topic started, so this is my first post. My original plan was a BN-based line, generic scenery, etc. I moved from Minot, ND to Cheyenne, WY, and the focus became the BN Funnel from Sandpoint, ID-Spokane, WA. After a railfan trip to the Moffat Route with a good friend, my focus suddenly, radically changed. I now am a hardcore D&RGW nut, and I will also have heavy BN traffic/joint operation trains as well. I still have a bunch of BN stuff, might as well not let it sit! I still like BN, and I love their prdecessor roads. I only regret I never got to see any of the roads I model in action before the mega-mergers. D&RGW bought SP in 1989, and UP took over SP in 1996-ish. Missed that one being in college. GN/NP/SP&S/CB&Q disappeared in 1970, and BN diappeared in 1997. Never saw either road in pre-merger operation. I moved to Minot, ND in 1999, but I wasn't much of a train nut then. I regret not shooting the solid sets of BN SD40-2's I saw, unpatched.... I regret not shooting BNSF Dash-9's when they were in clean, solid sets. I got tired of seeign them.
    Moral of this story:
Shoot what you can, when it's clean--it likely never will be again!
