I model the PRR in the mid-50s. My fiction is that the PRR extended into New England with the purchase of the Boston & Maine, so there are a few non-PRR engines running around.

Free-lanced Boston & Maine in the Pre-McGinnis, pre-Guilford, and pre-Pete Nolan eras. My inner-child is still in the late 1940's, as you can see that from this scene....:shade:

BTW, that is the Flying Yankee, NOT some strange looking imposter run by a western road with a funny name...something like "Q"? Besides, it's MY fantasy.......

I model the Western Pacific around 1970ish. I started with wanting to model the California Zephyr's last days, but then, I wanted models of the WP's FTs...and then Perlman Green units and then the New Image and then...

I model the late 80's. Lots of Seaboard System/Family Lines action. Also, some Freelanced - the Alabama Gulf and a Terminal railroad.
    Visitors include KCS, ICG, SOU.........
Heavy on Intermodal, lots of TOFC - Prototype and Freelanced. :)

I model a couple different roads. In town I like paved roads, out in the country dirt is the way to go. Sometimes along the roadbed I even use a gravel road.

CB&Q is my main focus. I used to stretch that into the future (BN and BNSF) and Westward (parent roads GN and NP), however with the expanding selection of RTR equipment, I had the luxury of scaling back to my primary focus (CB&Q in the 50's and 60's). I also have a fondness for the CGW (which shared trackage with CB&Q and IC along the Mississippi river in Northern Illinois). I'll be first in line to buy a Kato NP North Coast Limited if/when they produce one. I already have the slumbercoaches, now I just need the rest of the train :).

Its quite funny when this thread first started 6 years ago I was modelling UP, I'm now modelling Missouri Pacific and a few of the fallen flags of UP. I still have a few UP models but not too many.

What this thread really needs is a poll. Perhaps by region of the USA.

Pretty much have always been a Hill Lines modeler since I grew up around them. At one time I included Milwaukee in among the NP and GN. A number of years back I switched over to modeling the SP&S with a couple of the early FAs and an Atlas RS-3. Since then my modeling interests have narrowed alot with the SP&S being the primary road and GN running over it to reach the Oregon Trunk Line. The rest of the motive power (about 30%) is logging roads that connect with SP&S. Except for cars almost all NP power is now gone and two Milwaukee locos are basically my museum pieces. Some run through power from CB&Q and some CP units with trackage rights make up the rest.

After reading and researching this thread, does this classify me as a "road" scholar?

I primarily model Great Northern/Northern Pacific (1950-1970) with SP&S, CB&Q and WP on the side. Additionally I model some BN/BNSF up to, but not beyond, 1998.

My home layout roadname is "Great Northern Pacific."

For me it's primarily the Great Northern and especially anything in Big Sky Blue. Although, I can never pass up anything with the Northern Pacific or SP&S. I was also modeling the BN but I have decided to try and limit myself to pre BN to keep from going broke. The problem is that the manufacturer's occasionally put out something that is just too excellent to pass up. Joe
