Unfortunately it happens everywhere, not just at the LHS. Most big stores now have on-site equipment to "repackage" returned goods. There seems to be a huge fight between manufacturers and retailers about returned goods. How many times have you see a notice asking you to return defective goods to the manufacturer rather than the store? I don't heed that plea! But it might be quicker in model railroading to heed the plea.
I have my doubts about additional functions in the EM13. There are no output connections to support them, or at least I didn't notice any when I got mine. Now that I'll be able to install it soon, I can't find the dang thing. Oh, and my GS-4 threw its traction tires yesterday. <sigh> Best! Randall
