Who would like to do this and what do you feel would be reasonable compensation for your time and skill? I can probably arrange to have 30 cars drop shipped to you from my favorite pusher um, I mean vendor. You buy the paints etc. I send you a check. Once we know postage then I'll send compensation for that. I'm thinking a total of 30 cars. Maybe 20 flat white boxcars, 4 Silver Covered Hopper 4 Gold Tank Cars 1 FP40 shell and 1 Atlas caboose What do you think? I have an open flexible mind but my wallet? Not so much.
Go with Atlas Trainman - $10 each tops. <smile> Do a couple of extras to sell on eBay as cars from a "Limited Edition Special Run." Just thinking about it, if you did do a special run, I know I'd pay what we did for the Trainboard car to have a car from your wedding.
Sorry for being late to the show, but I'd go with some Atlas 5701 Covered Hoppers. Smooth surface, get a nice signature without the rivets or door seams to write across.
MU 26 AEU - That is an excellent suggestion for the car. I'm conflicted in whether I want a uniform 'unit' train or a mix freight. A long smooth string of white 40' boxcars would be cool but hmm, a mix of maybe 10+ box cars with covered hoppers, tank cars and such. Hmmm. Arggg
I can see it now: There is a reception line. There is a table where guests sign N scale cars. There is a fist fight going on as 2 guys are arguing over ONE car. "The boxcar is mine to sign...go sign a tank car !" "You sign a hopper...I had this really cool looking flatcar first !!! Or better yet...2 women all dressed up...in a catfight over which car to sign !! A YouTube sensation or at least worthy of a blurb on the evening news... * Stick with a unit train ;-) R O F L M A O !!!
I have decided. It will be: The cars I have in stock plus Maybe a few I buy Rattle can paint I am still open to ideas / concepts and suggestions. If anyone wants to help I would be thrilled and will cover all cost and a bit extra.
Before going all out, take a piece of plastic. Paint it white. Then (after it has dried) sign your name with a sharpie. Let it dry. Then spray dull coat on it and watch what happins.
From personal experience with Sharpies and home-made (ink jet) decals: make sure the ink is hard dry (like a couple of days) do a misting of dullcote a day or so later go back with a regular coat of clear going slow and giving extra drying time has worked well for me
Undecorated Cars I managed to locate about 50 undecorated Atlas freight cars and two Undec GP30s. These include about: 18 X PS1 40' box cars 10 X Quad bay covered hoppers 6 X 40' flats with 20' trailers 12 X 3 Bay coal hoppers 6 X 70 Ton ore cars I will be painting them tomorrow in my future 'sister in laws' backyard. Laura and I will do up a few of them to give guest an idea of what they can do with them. Undecs:
I think this is a wonderful idea and a way to not only incorporate your railroad modeling into your marriage but also include your wife in your hobby as a shared activity. and, above all else, best wishes and blessings in your covenant to one another and in the one who unites us as one. all my best to you both Gary
Test Car With thick water based marker by me, (the angle made things even worse): I bought some fine tips tonight and will try them out.
Thanks Damoen, You can be sure. Thanks also to whoever suggested, "Krylon" paint. I still have a 1/4 can left at least.
23 Hours - give or take. This is likely my last post till I return from my honeymoon, unless I have WiFi in NYC. So far I have 3 pre-decorated cars and I'm assured there will be about 20 to 30 done. Have fun folks.
