How about some old steam? Photo of Durbin Rocket's Climax #3 idling at the station prior to the run into the woods along the Greenbriar river. This one pushed the caboose my wife and I spent the night in a couple of years ago. Talk about a quite place in the middle of nowhere! It was a great getaway to spend the night in the restored caboose away from civilization.
There is a steam locomotive parked behind the tree. We were living in the Philippines in 1960 when my Dad too this photo.
I got the whole locomotive but that darn lovely tree. Still I got the flared radiators - mostly. From the parking lot of where I live: GP40X shoves the Providence to Boston train towards South Station.
Tunnel 25 on the Moffat--this shot was what I had picked out in a hurry: A much better shot from an angle to the left of this position yielded a much cleaner shot.
They are in the process of moving this locomotive to be restored and displayed at the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke. I could not get a good view of it from any direction.
BNSF in Atwater CA I was wandering around the Castle Air Museum so I only had the macro lense when I heard a whistle. I was far enough in that making it to the telephoto in the parking lot wasn't happeneing (after getting back to the car I wouldn't have needed it anyway, the tracks were only across the street from the parking lot). The only option was to shoot through the fence and crop it later.
