I went back and edited the post with the missing signature and it showed up on "preview" - but it's not there when I save the edit.... But the signature appeared on the next post, and I hope this one...Likely a software glitch of some kind... (Edit several hours later - when THIS post was new the signature lines showed - now they're gone! And again, "preview" shows the signatures buuuut...cue the Twilight Zone theme...)
Here's another video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2G23kNLOrAM Don't think this pace will continue, folks...the above was shortened because my memory chip wasn't fast enough...I'm working at rectifying that...
You can say that again, my prototype only have 30 and I have 6 of them plus two more coming not to mention the 8 UP heritage units i also have.
Cool video Jim. The flange squeal really seals it for me. Now, was that grafitti I saw on the rib-side hoppers, or just an optical illusion? :dont-know: -Gary
So true! I think what sealed the deal for me though was a Google search of BNSF powder river basin. Some of those pics are epic.
I'm a big fan of your layout, scenery and track work looks terrific. I also model modern UP and BNSF. My only gripe is that in the video's the trains are running too fast cosidering the prototype area is heavy mountain grade. I have first hand knowledge, I run the real ones over that territory daily.
Jim, On a grade like that, with a curve like that, might I suggest a flange greaser? Oh, and yes, the video was pretty darned convincing. Love the flange squeal! Great job with the sound! Takes me back to beiging high upon the rocks in South Boulder Canyon railfanning the Moffat Route...
Yup, no question. Another scratch project, like the switch machines I'm working on (see the last picture...I don't tell you EVERYTHING...) Lessee: flange greaser, defect detector - what else am I missing? It's these little details that make the difference IMO. And scratching isn't all that difficult - in this scale you can't really see the fine detail, like barb wire, so a representation is really all you need... Thanks, Hemi! (EDIT) And as a question of housekeeping, the great signature debate has been solved. In order to tighten things up a bit, our hosts have rigged the software to show the signature on only the FIRST post on a page - like this post. Subsequent posts will have the sig stripped, thus saving a few bytes. And every little byte counts!
Let's move to the Oakville yard for a couple weeks... Here I decided it was high time for some identification..
Thanks, TK - the only other buildings on the entire layout at the moment are the two equipment sheds for the cell towers...There will likely be a few buildings though, I have something in mind for the Caliente area...the area I model is pretty barren, just grass, trees, rocks, and cattle. I'm thinking semi-seriously of building a separate mini layout (no trains) for a downtown area - I do like towns!
We're still in Oakville; I've done a bit more detail work at the fuel pads - here are a couple shots:
