I like the addition of the cones around that one signal mast, until the paving crew can move that paved area.
Yep, so many cones the cars can't even get around the traffic light Used to be a four way stop, then the city crew ( me ) added the traffic lights and did not do a very good job ( me again ), as one in the middle of road and the rest leaning Typical city workers ( me again )! I do really like them, just have to fix them all at some point to look decent at least! I need to find some kind of Clay stuff or those smaller Brass looking tubes at Hobby Lobby to try and fix them at some point. I'm using coffee stirrers right now and they appear to be too big? Any ideas to make them seat properly? Those and the street lights?
Maybe bathtub caulk? It would fill the gap and hopefully as small as the lights are would keep them straight as they dry.
I'm looking at that evergreen sidewalk stuff but have no clue what size to order for N Scale? Also not sure if I want to do that? Sidewalk sizes are at the bottom. The scale sizes they list on the sidewalk stuff are just that, 1/2" by 1/2" squares, etc. It makes it very easy too on those sheets to just scribe down the groove to snap a clean break.
But what size for N Scale, I'm confused as usual Also depends on what size Hobby Lobby or Michaels has too!
Moose would go with 1/2 inch for city, or 3/8 inch for residential, based on the following: First, do some maths: N scale: 1 foot = 160 scale-feet 12 inches = 1 foot (3/8 inch) × (1 foot / 12 inch) x (160 scale-feet / 1 foot) = 5 scale-feet (1/2 inch) × (1 foot / 12 inch) x (160 scale-feet / 1 foot) × = 6.7 scale-feet Then look up some architectural or city zoning like the following: https://nacto.org/publication/urban-street-design-guide/street-design-elements/sidewalks/

Unless your modeling some gigantour city scene where you need super-wide sidewalks, then yeah, either one should look fine, IMHO.* Hooves crossed that you can find what you need locally. Moose had made sidewalks from styrene by carefully cutting the scale width of a crosswalk and cross-scoring it to make it look like a sidewalk. Literally a bloody pain... * In Moose's Humble Opinion
In my neck of the woods, sidewalks in single unit housing neighborhoods run 30-42" wide. 1/4" would be 40 scale-inches.
in2tech.... Measure sidewalk widths in your town that you want to model. Get as close as you can with the measurements below... (1/4inch) = 40 N scale INCHES. (3/8 inch) = 5 N scale-FEET. (1/2 inch) = 6.7 N scale-FEET. Our sidewalks on our main street are 6 feet wide. Yes...I measured them. 1/2" styrene works well for them. Our residential sidewalks are between 36 and 40 inches. 1/4" styrene works well for them. .
Maybe this spreadsheet will help?? Also a pdf ... Created it when first starting out and added lengths based on need. eg. Love the .04" styrene so added a row for its thickness. Added other rows for commonly used layout items and raw stock and/or materials. In time, it becomes 2nd nature...
Thank you! As the saying goes, "better the devil you know." Bought a SF home so staying in FL for the time being. Plus, executed a double close.. Slept in my own bed at the old place on 11/27 and slept in my own bed on 11/28. So we will see how it goes however set the layout up after being boxed for > 6 months so that's a plus.
Let there be light's. Of course almost everything is crooked still. Planning on breaking it down over the holidays, and try to clean it up a bit and make things look better. Well, that's the plan anyway And there should also be some new additions coming soon also, I hope!
When I get to illuminating my layout someday @in2tech , you'll be my guiding light. Seriously, that is all really neat. I love the billboard too. Can that be run off the Just Plug lighting hub?
