We play a smattering of stuff. Mostly Blues/rock/bluegrass type music. Not enough $$$ for a new engine yet. Most of the cash is going to the actual layout.
Any Stevie Ray? I loved to listen to Stevie when used to work on my old layout. I think I scared the neighbors once blasting Howlin' Wolf's Three Hundred Pounds Of Joy! lol
Alright then! I've finally been making some progress on the layout. Theres been some fairly major reconstruction of the middle portion of the door. I've ripped up the track though there and most of the scenery between the track and the facia. Rebuilding has begun though. The terrain has been completed along the front of the layout. Landscaping has begun as well. Here, shredded leaves are being glued down where trees will be... On the subject of shredded leaves, I have also been improving the forests on the layout. Laying down leaf clutter where there was none has helped a lot. New track should be arriving in a couple days, then I'll lay out the new track plan. Still not sure of the final plan yet though.
The work that you are doing on the rebuild looks really nice. Also like the ground up leaves for scenery. One suggestion, add some fallen limbs or tree trunks for some more detail. Again, very nice work.
Thanks guys. Raymond, your right about the tree limbs, maybe some stumps too. Today, I added some autumnal trees to the forest. I made sure that they were not to colorful, since I'm aiming for late September, when only certain variates of tree are starting to turn.
So does this mean the ground cover you're applying in the pictures actually is shredded leaves? How did you do it? The results are very cool and I just wanted to makes notes for future reference. Thanks in advance!
Nothing heavy, just a warehouse and a spur track. Yep, real leaves. I just go out in the woods, gather some of the driest leaves I can find, put them in a blender and shred them up! Once the leaves are shredded enough, I put it all in a sieve and sift out the smallest bits. This also keeps out the stem chunks.
Caleb, I am considering a HCD layout, and watching your progress, at only half my age is stunning, to say the least. You've done an amazing job, and your techniques work very well. Kudos! Do you have a track plan?
Heres a quick sketch of the current plan. Real simple design with plenty of room for scenery. Not quite completed yet... The upper portion is the ATSF glorieta sub side. The lower portion is the Virginia side.
No passing siding? Curious... If KISS princile is your aim, you nailed it. Simplistic, and maximum scenery for your space.
Yep, no passing siding. The ATSF side is a prototype scene almost exactly and there is no siding there, so I would have to squash it into the VA side and a siding that short just didn't seem worth it. Oh and thanks Harry!
After this, are there any larger layouts that are going to be built? Or is the door the only thing for a while.
Well, seeing as I haven't even started on the ATSF side yet, I think I'll be working on the door a while more. I don't really have the space for a bigger layout anyway.
Heres some new shots.. The first stretch of road is complete except for markings and weathering. A field, to be filled with corn when I get the chance. The spur was also ballasted...
