That depends on if I keep on doing things like this...

I've decided to change the middle of the layout. I've rerouted the road so that it continues along the tracks and then crosses them. The plastic road pieces you see are only temporary. I'm thinking about using joint compound for the roads this time. :)

    Painted base.

I'll have to remove that turnout in the siding now though...

I've started work on a garden, which will be beside a house along the road.

    The "stakes" for the tomatoes.

A row of "something". Made this by rolling a piece of poly fiber with ground foam on it between my hands and then gluing the "tube o' greens" to the layout.

A few more rows, tomatoes on the plants and a misting of matte medium. I'll wait for it to dry and then get some closer shots.

Envirodude, you are an inspiration! I am just starting my first layout and will use everything you have shown here.

I'd have to say that's right on the money. Your attention to detail and techniques are definately first rate. You're showing everyone here that the small details help make a smaller railraod seem larger. Good job.

    mmmm...maters...suddenly, I'm hungry for a sammich!
Yes, Caleb has been an inspiration. He also proves that you don't need a whole lotta space to have a really nice layout.

What do you use for the top coat, not the paint but do you use sculptamold or do you just use glueshell, and then go make a masterpiece.

If your asking about my basic terrain, then it's Glueshell as the base then a layer of Sculptamold, or plaster, whichever I have on hand. Sculptamold is well worth the extra $$ IMHO though. :)

I started work on the road today. Joint compound was spread on the road base, it cured for an hour or so and the I carved the edge of the road.

Once that drys I'll move on to sanding.

Nice work. I hope my scenery will be 1/2 as good as yours.

Nah nah, it's cool dude.:) I haven't made any more progress on the road yet, summers been a bit too busy for layout building. Thinking about restarting the road though, with some woodlands scenics paving tape. It came out a bit to uneven for me .

Caleb, someone bumped the "Show Us Your Hollow Core Door" thread. You show post something there to show off your work!

Could you tell me how the paving tape works? Cause I have wondered about it.

The paving tape is a foam tape a few millimeters thick. You draw out the outline of your road on the layout, then lay the paving tape along the lines. Then you spread plaster or joint compound between the tape with a flat something. Take tape up when its dry and its finished.

Some photos and info on the process here:
