Got a chance to run them, and I think they are great. I can see why some people would bad mouth them, but mmmmm, they are good. Dane N. ------------------ TAMR2860-AKA BC Rail King TAMR2860@hotmail.com

Dane N.

Setup the test track when I got the little beauties home, and the minor not quite proto type aside, I agree with you Dane. I think they are great and are smooth on the track . Oh, to have my layout up and running. I may ware out the test track just to watch them go . ------------------ Residing in BNSF's St. Croix Subdivision near Trempealeau, WI
What are your thoughts on the couplers provided on the units. Can they be used with microtrains or should they be replaced with microtrains couplers. It looks like they could work with them. Just got mine in the mail and I sure am impressed except for the minor flaws in paint, I can't wait to get some decoders in them and get them in service. I can just see the lash ups with my dash-9s, SD-45s, F45s, C30-7s, SD60Ms, SD40-2s... can you tell I'm excited I can hardly get any work done. Bryan

Bryan

They work with the MTL couplers, at least well enough to pull out the slack on a momentum start up and run around the test track, but I am planning on replacing them with MTL's 2004-1 couplers. Have some on order now. The 2004-1 are the pre assemblied version of the 2004. Right you are Bryan, they are nice . P.S. What decoders are you planning on using? ------------------ Residing in BNSF's St. Croix Subdivision near Trempealeau, WI [This message has been edited by Patrick (edited 08 May 2000).]
still not got my snoots yet ------------------ wheres all the C636's???? stickymonk.com Matts Photo gallery

quote:
P.S. What decoders are you planning on using? [/B]

I think digitrax has manufactured a plug n play decoder check here: http://www.ttx-dcc.com/ They will have the actual model number.
I ran one again, they are nice. I noticed that they fixed up the font on the CP Rail unit, but they still haven't fixed the UP. Are the numbers too large on the BNSF? I am starting to nit-pick, oh well Happy Railroading to y'all! Dane N. ------------------ TAMR2860-AKA BC Rail King TAMR2860@hotmail.com
Does anybody know where I might find some decent profile shots of the CPR snoots?I've got three of these puppies and that snoot has to be changed if I can find out which one these units have. Thanks for any and alkl help guys. ------------------ Catt!
While we are nit picking on these units. I received both a warbonnet and a Heritage BNSF unit yesterday. I've already complained about the walkways on the SF unit but shouldn't the roof of the cab on the BNSF units be all orange instead of orange and green. I know that on the Dash-9 units I've seen they are orange. But they are in H-II sceme. Sounds like KATO needs to hire a consultant in their paint department over in Japan.

Thanks Patrick, You cleared up one question and caused another. The walkways are wrong on these units also!!!! They should be orange. I kinda like them the way the model has them though.
I know this may not be hepl, but the train shows often have some good profile outlines that you would find alot of help.... Happy Railroading! Dane N.
Still waiting for my 'snoots'. I have a Santa Fe and a BNSF on order. Don't know if any have arrived this side of the pond yet. Now we await another version of the SD40-2's, as I need some Santa Fe ones, and they didn't have the early type, but I had one in BN. Cannot have too many of these splendid locomotives. But as they are limited runs, will have to lay out a lot of cash all at once to buy many ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com
About the SF walkways, up front, they are yellow. It's down the long hood that they sould be blue. I saw both SF and BNSF units last night at our club meeting and I think I can live with the nose/anticlimber screw-up. I WILL be painting the walkways the right color though. After looking at the link pic of #6799, I think the numbers on the cab are right. Now I just have to find some more AC units for the cabs and I'm in business! ------------------ RAILROADING-TO-THE-MAX, Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Style! Thanks for the link to the prototype. I am waiting for my BNSF SD40-2's to arrive in Aus. i hope they are not too long
Matt and I just received our 'snoots' this morning, from JnJ. They run beautifully, and the 'white' headlights look rather good, certainly much better than the very blue ones in HO. But then, N is better anyway Minus points are those YELLOW walkways on the Santa Fe unit, and the walkway on the BNSF one needs painting orange! Matts UP ones do at least have these the correct colour. I know it is because they are part of the handrail moulding, so are the same colour as those, but it is annoying. Lots of detailing to add anyway, so don't really mind the above gripes All-in-all, another excellent model. Now for some later version non-snoots!! Need lots of them ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! BTW, the locomotives cost us £47 ($70), including the import duty and the dreaded VAT (value added tax), if we had bought them from a hobby shop here they would have been about £62-£63 ($94).
quote:
Originally posted by bmalonef45: Thanks Patrick, You cleared up one question and caused another.

Picked up a copy of Model Railroading, April/May issue, and there is an article on page 56, Diesel Detail Close-up - Santa Fe EMD SD40-2 "Snoot Nose" by Rich Picariello, that maybe of interest to you. It has pictures of two Santa Fe prototypes 5116 & 5126, and some detailing info on the HO and our favorite N-Scale. ------------------ Residing in BNSF's St. Croix Subdivision near Trempealeau, WI
Just realised, as I said earlier, I quite like the look of the snoot headlights - but being Santa Fe and BNSF units, I am going to have to move them to the short hood Perhaps I will try fibre-optics. ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com/index
Alan, I also like the look of the snoot headlights. My early SD40-2 UP's look a little dim to me, but then I am new at this and some of the detail I'm sure I miss. My BNSF snoot arrived in the mail last night and I think it is a nice piece of work as are the SF units. I can just see it in the lead of the two Santa Fe snoots in an MU hookup. I need to stop collecting engines now and begin to work on the layout! ------------------ Residing in BNSF's St. Croix Subdivision near Trempealeau, WI
