Patrick, lots of us are guilty of collecting locomotives at the expense of getting on with the layout ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com/index
Hello verybody!! I got to get a pair ofr the new snoots out on the main, and wow! they are better than on the test track. I had a 85 car train, with double stacks (weighted), they are tuff! Happy Railroading! Dane N. ------------------ TAMR2860-AKA BC Rail King TAMR2860@hotmail.com
I have one SF snoot and have added OPERATING nose headlights! I used fiber optics. Although it did take some time, I got them to look like they were factory installed. If any one would like a picture, E mail me and I will send you one and also send info on how I did it upon request (E mail me at: CraigM111@aol.com). Have fun guys!! Craig Martyn.............BLMA
I am also guilty collecting locos instead of building my layout. I have now successfully pushed back my benchwork to mid June to early August. This is due to my mass buying of Atlas and Kato engines. I still have not ordered my snoots yet. I need to do this soon. I did however pick up three more SD45 units

I guess I've got an older photo than that. Of course, it could of been a repaint done at a different shop than this one. ------------------ RAILROADING-TO-THE-MAX, Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Style! Brent Tidaback, Member #234
BUT WAIT! At the BNSF board there's a nice link to a Photo of the Northtown Yard at Minnie-Paul! Santa Fe SD40-2 #6472 seems to have a yellow front porch, so I guess we're both right! It just goes to show, if you want it to look just like the actual unit, you've got to have photos! Painting practices vary from shop to shop. Keep that in mind guys. ------------------ RAILROADING-TO-THE-MAX, Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Style! Brent Tidaback, Member #234
Don't think so, Brent. That bit of yellow you can see is the vertical part of the battery box, the actual walkways are all blue. The only yellow bit is on the step up onto the traction motor blower duct on the left side of the loco. as a safety feature in poor light, to stop crews tripping on the step. ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com/index britishsteamgallery.homestead.com/index.html
I would just like to thank Craig at BLMA for emailing me details of how he put the headlights in the nose of the 'snoot'. Thanks, Craig. Will let you know how I get on ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery Alan's European Gallery Alan's British Steam Gallery
Tell ya all what. I live in the twin cities About eight miles from Northtown Yard in Minneapolis. I will check it out first hand and let you all know. Matt
Thanks Alan! Like I said, if any one wants the instructions, just let me know. BTW, the proper nose headlight is made by Detail Associates, the number is 8218 and the discription is Dual Oscillating Headlight-Pyle. Hope these things help! Craig Martyn........BLMA

I still have a few photo's that show yellow on front porches on some GEEPS and others, thus I have painted all my fronts as such. But if this is wrong for some unit's, I'd like to correct it. I don't have my "Snoot" in hand yet, but I will tonight. I'll check back later... ------------------ RAILROADING-TO-THE-MAX, Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Style! Brent Tidaback, Member #234
Are there any kits to make the nose the right size on the ATSF snoots or is the difference so small its unnoticable. I don't model N and are curious about it. ------------------ Theres no such thing as having to many coal hoppers or GP40-2 when you model Chessie System LONG LIVE THE KITTEN!!! LONG LIVE BIG BLUE!!!
Well, I'm not exactly sure, but I know that I have never seen one (convertion for proper nose length). But it can be done with the proper tools and patience. ------------------ Craig Martyn BLMA(best looking models around) Custom painting and detailing
dont really think the length is that much more to worry about. in nscale i think it would add up to less than a 16th of an inch. and the last time i was at a train show i never once heard a kid say daddy the trains look cool but arent the snoot noses on the bnsf engines too short. thats my two cents on the arguement. have fun with model railroading. i do. ------------------ bnfan99
I feel exactly the way you do bnfan99!! Here's another one, I talked to Atlas about doing the SD70 type loco (which one would be up to them), and they told me they did NOT have the mechs, the 70's are a few feet longer than the 60's. Sit back and think about it, what is that in real life....NOT MUCH AT ALL! But who knows.....someday we will get that series. Hope it's soon! ------------------ Craig Martyn BLMA(best looking models around) Custom painting and detailing
Well while you guys argue the point about accuracy of the snoots, I'm still waiting for my hobby shop to receive there order. I suppose it's the price you pay when living in the best country in the world lol. ------------------ http://members.optusnet.com.au/~pcassar/index
