Paul - Leave the DB's on and go for it! Main detailing points: Bell mounted on left side high on long hood, just forward of the DB blister; second pair of headlights in the low hood (nose mounted); most thta I've seen had a rotating beacon center front of the cab; firecracker antenna centered on the cab; three chime air horn on the right front of the cab roof. To resay some stuff, these were purchased specifically for pool service in and out of the Powder River Canyon.

Replies to two people. Colonel, Thanks for the invitation. As Jason said, just give us the date and we will turn up. You should be made aware of one thing, when I turn up my shadow goes with me. The shadow is my 15 year old son Scott. Very quiet and well behaved. He is the one responsible for getting me back into N scale. Jason, thanks for the nice comments. I will take you up on the offer for photos when the F units are done. Thanks guys, Gary.
Sorry guys...didn't check the 'Board over the weekend. The weather was great over here. Colonel, it sounds like you're firing up the airbrush. There are two decal sets from Microscale. The sawblade and eagle set you have is good for the early non-DB SD40s and SD40-2s. The Mopac DB SD40-2s and repainted SD40s had the newer decals and larger roadnumbers: http://www.microscale.com/decals/HO_scale/87113.jpg . My SD40s have the DB blisters and fans removed and filled, some which need to be stripped and redone as these were done in my "learning" years. #3057 (shown earlier in this thread) has the long hood of an Atlas GP40 grafted after the air filter (which required filing down the frame halves since the Atlas shells are a bit narrower than the older Kato SD40 shells). All SD40-2 (c)s with dynamic brakes are later units that came with the newer corrugated radiator grilles and brakewheels, like the Kato snoots. Norco is right. Kevin Eudaly's book is awesome - a must-have for any Mopac fan or modeler. N Scale Supply sells both MS decals and Modelflex paint on-line. Mitch...it's good to see that SD70MAC again Have fun! ~Tim
Tim, Thanks for the advise will keep it in mind when ordering the decals, Norco, Any Friday night is probably the best for me. I'll speak with Jason and organise something maybe next weekend the 21st???
Three of my four PRR-MP interchange cars in Eagle livery... You didn't say they had to be locos, did you?
blazeslayer the unit started as an atlas conrail gp7 and a life like gp 20 shell. i cut the cab and short hood off of the gp7 and replaced it with the short nose from the gp20 and cab from gp20. also the sill and frame is from the gp20. i also used the atlas trucks on this loco. used polly s paint and oddballs decals. there are more photos of it in my railimages album. http://www.railimages.com/gallery/mitchhartman so are you a firefighter in frisco?
Mitch, After looking at the pictures of your GP7 in your album it's going to be my next project. What did you use for the filter box and the spark arresters? Oh, yeah I work for Dallas and live in Frisco. You?
blaze i used the sunrise enterprises central air filter box and jnj trains no lift spark arrestors. i am in the process of starting the sister unit, #1976 which is a gp18. i am a firefighter and emt i/d in my little community of moweaqua, il. if you wanna talk fire sometime email off board.
Norco (Gary) came over last night with some of his MOPAC equipment. Here are a couple of pics. Gary, Can you send me the email address for the suthor of the MP book, what was the book title? Thanks [ 20. August 2004, 23:02: Message edited by: Colonel ]
Colonel, Thanks for the great night! Even greater surprise was to see the shots of Scott's UP F units and my MP FA's on TrainBoard the next morning. The Book title is "Missouri Pacific Diesel Power" by Kevin EuDaly. Unable to find his email address, but have found his sellers ID on eBay and sent him a question asking if he has any more copies for sale. Will let you know the results when he replies. Just to make your day here are two must have magazine issues for MP nutters. CTC Board, January 2003. Several articles on MP Sedalia Subdivision (St Louis to Kansas City) and TP/MP in Texas. CTC Board, December 1991. Major article on White River Subdivision (Kansas City to Diaz Jct, Arkansas. Both issues have some great color shots of SD40's & GE's.
Colonel, Received reply from Kevin EuDaly. He still has some copies of "Missouri Pacific Diesel Power". You can contact him at this email address:- keudaly@cvalley.net Let me know how you get on. Norco.
all this MoPac talk has made me interested in doing that non DB SD40 i'm currently kitbashing up as a MP unit. I think I'll number it 3052 then stick a nice looking C&NW herald on the cab side to represent the 20 units leased to CNW in 1988
