Not exactly MOPAC but a sister road. I used an Atlas GP7 and Microscale decals for this one.

    Tim,

I noticed some of your SD40's have dynamic brakes but did MOPAC actually have any?

Blaze an excellent model looks like we are getting some great Mopac models here.

Oh another question, what decals to I need to do a SD40 in the screaming eagles scheme?

They purchased 74 of what were designated SD 40-2c, the c for coal. These units were originally numbered in the 32xx series, but spent most of their blue lives as 6xxx series.

As I will be using SD40's with DB what are the differences between these and the SD40-2c's that had DB?

Now I have found the decals does anybody know I store where I can buy both decals and paint online?

I can't say this with 100% accuracy, but I think none of MoPac's SD40s had dynamic brakes. Does anyone know for certain?

As for the decals and paint, I have an ALMOST unused set of the MP decals and a half-full bottle of MoPac jenks blue (Accuflex) paint that's yours. Just send me a private message with your address and I'll ship 'em to you.

    Kiz,

Much appreciated for your gesture I have sent you a private message. I have been looking at the sites you suggested as well as the screaming eagles site and it seems the only Dynamic Brake models were the SD40-2

Oh well I might have to take some modelling licence lol.

That would be the Model Railroad Craftsman, Jason and Paul. If Gary and Maria doesn't stock it, then no-one in Sydney does.
Say hello to them for me, Jas.

Paul, this may not be just your first custom paint job.... how about cutting out the D/B blister an putting a non-D/B section in it's place? [IMG]

Guess it's just a matter of filing it down????

What are the main differences between a sd40 and sd40-2? I dont mind having the dynamic brakes

    Colnel,
Railroad Model Craftsman has one bottle of Modelflex Mopac Blue, ref #16-86. When I bought mine recently, I nearly bought the two in stock but left one on the shelf.
I must be the only guy in Sydney that seems to buy most of his Mopac paint. The decals are correct for yor SD40's.
Have you seen the MP diesel book by Kevin EuDaly? Man, it is a fantastic book!
One of my current projects is to paint one Life Like E8 in the Jenks blue scheme.
Have a few other things on the workbench, such as my three Kato F units in the blue and gray scheme and a T&P GP18 in the distinctive T&P blue & gray paint.
The F units will be lettered with Oddballs decals and the T&P GP18 with Microscale decals.
Will try and post some photos of these when finished. Will have to 'railroad' Jason to take some photos with his digital camera.
    Norco.

Here is only the MOPAC Sd40 with dynamic brakes that I know of.
The story goes that it was leased to a railroad in Mexico and when
returned to the US it looked like this.

Then it would need a bit of filling. Better to start with a non-dynamic insert, say off an Atlas GP40-2 - I think that's what I used for the Soo/BN SD40-2B to replace the DB blister.

Longer frame hence the 'porches' front and particularly rear. Sight glass on right hand side, Flexicoil (SD40) vs HTC (-2) trucks, and different battery boxes, etc. depending on the phase ond owner. Generally the length will give it away.

I see there is a precedent posted by Blazeslayer. Off hand, has the Kato N SD40 got corrugated or mesh grills?
