I have the stuff to do a paint job, but have not started it. My wife bought the three SD40-2s for me already painted a while back!!!! The Geeps and the B23-7 are standard Atlas fare.
And now a new project slowly in the works, inspired by this photo: So far I've done the scan and a little straightening, resulting in a start for decal artwork as follows: I think the lower lettering will need to be separated and printed alone, as straightening just a piece seems to be beyond my software or abilities. Then I'll just need to find a close paint match for the blue, and off to the races! Hopefully, more in a week or so...
Tad- I was wondering how to come up with those since Locomotives hasn't been around in about 10 years! They were the only company that made such a thing. I contacted the owner of the company a few years ago and was told that he does not have anymore. Are those made from I-beam styrene? Excellent work!
Thanks, Eagle2 & Chuck. I used Evergreen .125" I - beam cut to .100" high for the body of the spark arresters. I used some Evergreen .010" strip to cut the base plates from. I cut a .010" thick piece from a .030" x .030" piece of styrene to make the ears. I used Precision Scale 100 mesh for the grill.
Tad, Brilliant work, I'm never one for detail so I appreciate the time and skill it takes to do such modifications. Look forward to seeing the finished model.
slsf not to discount tad's awesome spark arrestors but if you don't have the time or the patience, jnj has them available. they are the jnj no lift spark arrestors
It is excellent work, Tad. I must admit there is more detail than I would have used. Partially, that is because I don't really know what a spark arrestor does or how it works. I do know how it looks from street level, so that is what I try to make. Yours is much better than my efforts on this so far. You may inspire me, though!
Thanks, Everyone. MoPac3092, When I started on these, I wasn't aware of the JnJ spark arresters, or I would have probably started with them. It appears that they would take a little modification to be the same type. JnJ's do not appear to have the "ears" that the MoPac prototype ones do. Flash, Basically they are a stack with baffles and screens. The purpose is to prevent any sparks from coming out of the exhaust stack and starting fires. I scaled them from this drawing of the Details West HO version off of the Walthers' site. [ December 26, 2005, 11:00 AM: Message edited by: Tad ]
Very nice work, Tad. You didn't happen to do a couple of extra arrestors, you know, for casting purposes? Calling Kel... calling Kel....
