Red Rock Great looking job on the 9-40C. Always loved the standard cab units better than the wide cabs. They are the best looking Dash-9's in my opinion. Something about that air conditioner?? Tried to justify having some in sar Orange but couldn't quite swing it. Something tells me they are nicer Black. Your scenery looks great as well. UP Mike I race on a Santa Cruz Blur. A little heavy but the travel is important for Canadian terrain. Last year was my first year back racing since 97 so I had to race Vet Sport. Won all but 1 race I entered. Guess it's Vet Expert this year. PM me and we'll yap about bikes. grant
Thanks Jeff, I spliced together an Atlas B8-40 front end with a Kato Dash 9 long hood. You need the four step walkway for the Dash 9. I also changed the front deck by adding the AC4400 ditch lights and rail from Kato. Some doors had to be changed and NS peculiarities added like the rear tool box and front cabinet on the engineers side. The sand hatch had to be filled on the rear and moved to the top. It was a challenge to pull off and stretched my skill level. It was the most ambitious project I've attempted. It does have some flaws but I'm glad I tried it and I really like the engine.
Reposted, from WNFF, but fresh from the train room: A lashup of 6 Geeps hustle a time freight thru Mitchell, CO:
Thanks for the kind words. All 6 need some dirt... Just need time. Newborns and time never appear in the same sentence, unless the word 'lacking' is in front of it... The lead unit is fresh from the box, all 5 of the trailing units are customs.
Excellent looking job there Jere, like the diff shades of DRGW orange. Can you share with us your technique for doing the number boards?
The leader is box stock, the rest, well, I found some numberboard sets in an old hobby shop, that are sticky labels, just cut them to size, and stick 'em on. The pairs each of 30's and 35's were quickly finished this way. The only beef I have, is that Polly Scale DRGW Gold doesn't match microscale's DRGW gold. The Modelflex bottle I have does, however match. In fact, I accidently tore a decal on the billboards for the large lettered GP30. I used Modelflex to patch things up, and it's an invisible repair!
Hemi, You sort of answered my question in your last post, but I'm not much up on Rio Grande. I was wondering if the RG was orange as point loco or yellow as the others ? I noticed the large size lettering on the orange. Any connection ? BTW, koool photo.
MicroScale now makes two D&RGW decal sets, one in Aspen Gold (yellow) and one in Kansas City Orange (orange). A few D&RGW units (the Conrail GP40 units) were painted in Kansas City, and they came back the wrong color. If it ain't a GP 40 with no nose headlight (3131-3151), paint it Aspen Gold. The lead unit on his train is correct. Tony Burzio San Diego, CA
All you need is Toby, Annie and Clarabelle.... I love to see those Tank engines.. I am very tempted to by Thomas as my First Steam engine and see how he goes at pulling 10 or So box cars and Hoppers !! Thomas is a 0-3-0 isnt he ???
Thomas is a 0-6-0. You count all the drivers on both sides. Same for the lead and trailing truck. Annie and Clarabelle came with Thomas, and Percy with a mail car is just coming out.
Not quite Thomas but... Southern Alberta Rails last 4 Dash-9's being readied for their last trip west. They are going to pay back horsepower hours in Oregon.
