Hill City, SD We rolled into Hill City, SD and tried to ride the 1800 Train but it was sold out. I did manage to snap some pictures of one of the steam engines under power. The Hill City depot. Is this a cool bike rack or what? Bettendorf Standard Gauge Truck Bettendorf Narrow Gauge Truck Ben
Same thing happened to us, only from the Keystone side. Every time we went to ride, it was sold out, and we were reluctant to purchase advance tickets due to the weather (it stormed almost the whole week we were there).
Yeah we worried about the weather too and were not on a set schedule so we really didn't know when we would make it to Hill City. On the plus side it gives me a reason to go back and try to ride the train. Ben
Hill City, SD The rest of the pictures from Hill City are mostly of rolling stock. Unfortunately most of the cars did not have any heritage markings clearly visible. Ben
Hill City, SD We conclude our Hill City stop with a couple of shots of BN Caboose #10866. Next up we will be stopping at Lead, SD. Ben
Lead, SD When we arrived in Lead, SD it was time for lunch. We decided to try eating lunch at the Black Hills & Fort Pierre RR Roundhouse. Looking down on the restaurant you can see the steam engine and passenger coach that were scratch built to seat guests in. Ben
Lead, SD After lunch we drove around town and located some air operated mine locomotives that once worked at the Homestake Mine. Ben
