Pete, RDCs are nothing to apologize for as passenger trains. The B&M ran 8 and 9 unit RDC trains out of North Station on all divisions throughout the system in the 60's. In fact, the B&M had the largest fleet of RDC's of any railroad, 108 IIRC. Sadly, Kato didn't produce any units lettered for the B&M.....:tb-sad:
Mike...fantasic shots of your passengewr fleet. Really nice to look at the bold colors. Excellent!!!!!...er I am a little concerned about that Novelty Shop, however !!!!!!
Did not Kato recently announce Busted and Mined RDCs? I seem to recall that it was supposed to be part of the Kobo line, or something, and that they were going to be DCC equipped and sound and cost four hundred bananas or something like that. I do not model Busted and Mangled, but since I was a small child in Massachusetts and rode them as a child and later as a young man (when they had B&M GP-9s or FP-10s push/pulling them) I would have bought a pair, had they been part of the regular Kato line at regular prices. I tried to check Kato's website to be sure of the price, but it appears to be down as I type this. Still, Eight hundred bananas the pair is a bit much for me.
I agree that a 400%+ increase in price for a DCC module seems a little stiff. The Kato site is still down. I also checked a few of the e-tailers that announce future realeases, but none listed any from RDCs.
Mark - very nice rock work! Here is a passenger train that I forgot. It too is my tourist train and is passing through "Summit".
Puddington, I am truly impressed with both your collection of various cars and schemes, but more with your attention to detail in your consisting, and the knowledge of the history of the various cars and schemes. My hat's off to you! The photos are of excellent quality as well. Thanks so much for sharing! Don
Here is my version of Carl's Rio Grande tourist train. The locomotive and combine belong to the girlfriend, the caboose is a [model does not represent actual prototype] that I made from a Bachpersonn four wheel caboose and some Microscale boxcar decals. I made the caboose to match a bumblebee MDC 2-8-0 that I had acquired at a show. But, if you must have a bumblebee locomotive:
Kato is doing Busted and Mangled RDCs in both early and late schemes. They are two-hundred seventy bananas apiece and have DCC and sound. Five-hundred-forty potatoes a pair is still too much.
