How about cheater box cars or something similar. With the rapid expansion of steam in N Scale this has a lot of potential. If you made the unit so one could easily use reefers or boxcars from your existing line that would be a bonus. I could see people picking up two to four of these.
Why does MTL tease me? So you finally came out with an 89' flat car. I've been waiting for about two years. Unfortunately, it was a CP Rail flat with containers, but I snapped it up anyway. So this month, finally, my dream came true. I click on the "new releases" at N Scale Supply, and I FINALLY see a runner pack of 89's. They were TTX yellow, so I figured that this is finally what I've been waiting for. Unfortunately, they were DODX cars. Why must you tease me?
I bet those will be big sellers - I've seen a lot of those DODX cars moving around lately (unfortunately). I'm looking forward to seeing them loaded as they move inland.
How about the DODX flats with the six wheel trucks that are use to carry the M1 tanks. Or how about the bulkhead flats in CSXT or a CSXT fuel tender.
Joe, A question on the heavyweights... I know the possability of lighting was brought up, if they will be, are there plans to offer trucks seperately? I'm getting ready to start on a project of lighting about 15 of the RR heavyweights for a friend but we want to swap to MT trucks instead of the RR trucks. This makes a dilema for pickup. If there was a possible option coming down the pipeline in the next year or so, it would be worth holding off on this till then.
How about a 36' old-timer flat car? These were a big part of the old time railroads, weren't they? And the Bachmnann models have been out of production, and clunky to boot. Please, pretty please!!!
I wasn't going to say anything, because I want MT to make these too, but if you really want 36' old time flat cars...kits.. Fine N scale. 38' http://www.finenscale.com/images/2103Flatcar.jpg I have 8 of these cars. They are resin cars with brass deck. One expands more than the other. The cars will sag or bow slightly depending on the temperature. But for the most part, they do look good. N scale Kits. Ex. Alan Curtis http://www.nscalekits.co.uk/logflatcar.html
Joe ... how about the Pullman-Standard PS-2 4427CD High-Side hopper. This car is NOT made by anyone in N-Scale ... and has a lot of modeling potential (just search eBay in the HO section for this car ... and Montana Rail Link uses them (old blue colors AND new colors (grey)) ... so that makes it a win-win in my book
How about new packaging? Fox Valley cars slip in and out of their boxes quickly and easily. I don’t know if this is possible with your highly detailed models but if you can life for runners who can’t store all of their cars on their layout at the same time would be very happy.
Joe, I'm not sure if it was this thread or another where someone noted that a Presidents Series would be a great follow up to the state cars. Well, I see that you are going to do that!!!! FANTASTIC!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!! I am really looking forward to being able to collect these cars. I can use them to share both history and model rr'ing with my son. Thanks for the new series.
The best part about the Presidential series, starting with Washington, is modelers can plan on which ones in the series you want to buy. There are many options & combinations for collectors to have some fun with. What could be neat is to come up with a variety of locos to pull them. MTL could support an upgraded line of Bachmann, Atlas, Model Power, Kato & Athearn locos to fit different eras.
