I started a thread in the N scale section re. my custom MoPac PA unit. http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?142497-MoPac-route-of-the-eagles-PA2 Having had all my questions answered (so far) this is a more appropriate place to continue my custom project. I got most of the pin striping done today and if I don't zoom in on the pics I'm pretty happy with the results. It's been a number of months since I tried to do intriacte decalling and WOW have my eyes gone south. With 1.25 cheaters on I think everything looks pretty darnd good. Then after I take a macro pic to show off my progress, bad words come out of my mouth!! With that said, here are my latest update photos of my Missouri Pacific PA unit. DONT ZOOM IN. ha ha. Im my (new) world "if it looks good enough unaided then its good enough!!!" Dont like it but it is what it is.... Wierd thing, I laid down the "Missouri Pacific" logo in the center of the grey stripe and wouldn't ya know it, completly dissapeared. Microscale made the letters out of silver and on a grey background they are essentailly invisible. I'm gonna have to custom apply all the letters separately in black. Not looking forward to that. Looked at your pics and something didn't look quite right. Copied and pasted said pics to another program then flipped them 180 degrees and WOW, that building looks great! :cute: I've used similar colors for my engine facility. Used a pikestuff building, if i'm not mistaken, similar to yours. Nice work!! What kind of rig is driving out of the bay?? Atlas?? Brian
Yeah... You're right Brian. I tried to upload pics from my smartphone last night and forgot the fact that i had taken the pictures with my mobile phone upside down. (in order, to have a better level view)... It's a pikestuff kit, and i painted it with tamyia colours. They're 2 atlas F-150

Finished my MoPac PA locomotive today. Might do some weathering in the future but need a break from the small parts glasses.
Nicely done! Later, you can tell me how I missed a MOPAC modeler in Gig Harbor when I lived in Seattle.
I've taken a breather from the hobby for a few months, I think some of my projects were getting so complex that I was getting burned out... so I did this as a fairly basic project, technically incorrect but hopefully a neat basic details and paint job: A Kato SD70MAC conversion into a plausible but not accurate SD70i. OK, it's wrong on so many details that I yield to any criticism on that front. But, you have the essence of the unit, with the nose headlight, the MAC's GPS dome removed, the angled blower duct housing changed to a flat piece, the CN style horn, plus all the little details. Of course, after I started this project, CN announces they are buying a bunch of SD70MACs and entering the AC traction era for the first time, so if I'd waited until next year, there would be an actual prototype for this model and I wouldn't have to cringe a bit whenever I run it!
ram, that's the beauty of our hobby, anything that looks believable goes. Even whimsy can have its place. Rivet counting can lock up your mojo, so you need to draw the line somewhere in order to move forward. I like the loco. It looks like it means business, and you can say it is a shop rebuild/prototype.
Ram, that’s pretty nice and started me thinking. I’ve been taking a break myself for awhile and I still have a few outside projects to finish, but after seeing yours and others custom work, it occurred to me that maybe I need a custom loco like yours to rekindle the spark.
Some more vehicles almost ready for paint: A 1950 Studebaker Starlight Coupe, about the fourth one I have done (this time with bumpers) and a 1952 Chevrolet 2 door fastback. The Chevrolet was shrunk down from 1/32 scale in several stages - I actually started this before any HO scale '52 Chevy models became available. The Studebaker originally was 1/43 scale and also took several stages to get it down to N. A 1946 DeSoto 7 passenger Suburban. Starting with an HO scale '42 DeSoto, I changed the upper front fenders, headlamps, and grille. I also blended the front fenders into the doors and smoothed the rear fenders slightly. The result was then used as a master and shrunk down to N scale. The lighting and my photography makes the windshield opening look strange but it looks better in person. Late 1940's Ford and Chevrolet truck cabs shrunk down from HO scale. I haven't decided what to use for a chassis for these yet.
