Winds of War was a TV miniseries about preludes (personal mostly) to WWII. Fairly good too.

Yes, that was an excellent miniseries. I remember watching it with my parents and its sequel War and Remembrance. With so much worthless trash on TV, I don't understand why someone doesn't run these again. I also recall another great miniseries, Danger UXB from 1981, as shown by PBS. In 13 episodes, it follows a British unexploded bomb disposal unit during WW-II.

I didn’t see the miniseries but I did read the books. The books were excellent.

Meanwhile, Dan's layout is looking great, so far!

You haven't got it yet for the Winds Of Woopie, think OLD TV program, it may come to you. I'll explain it all later.

But brought up great stuff people like so far! But NO winner yet. Hint: the real movie is very long and I have never ever made it through it. That a good enough hint? Someone IS going to guess it, and the Winds Of Woopie is a play on words. Me thinks people here are going to hate me when they find out the answer, but hey it's all in fun!

Alright, here it goes best hint ever, It's A Classic movie!

Yes... both were very good though a little disappointed in W and R with the replacement of some of the leading actors. Borrowed DVDs in Oct, they are available for loan from public library. Definitely enjoyed seeing again especially without commercial interruption.

OK, I did NOT intend to still the thread with this and I screwed up anyway as it was Went With The Wind and it was a Carrol Burnett spoof of... wait for it...

    Gone With The Wind.

And I have never seen it. I'm so sorry I wasted everyone time but mainly sorry to @Hardcoaler, I was trying to have fun and messed it up :)

    Geez, I'll go now.

I have both books. Also the DVD set from Winds. I have looked at getting War & Remembrance a few times, but the prices seem way out of line.

That was a fabulous spoof. You can actually find it on YouTube. :)

No problem at all, a branchline excursion into interesting topics is welcome. I remember that Carol Burnett spoof well. Harvey Corman breaks me up every time.

Our public library has the set too, along with a lot of others. I never know what kind of condition their CDs and DVDs will be in though. It's unfortunate that people don't treat the media with care, as some I withdraw are badly scratched. Who does this kind of thing?

Me too, North and South, the Thornbirds and some childhood favorites like Hogan's Heroes. Oh yeah, its amazing since over time I've borrowed some fairly new DVDs that looked like they were used as coasters or frisbees. Always clean em before inserting into player.

Continuing my quest for trees, I figure I'd need 1,600+ if I were to build them separately. That'd consume the next few years and my sanity as well.

Is anyone here a member of Model Railroad Academy? They have a promising nine minute tree making video that uses green florist's foam, but it cuts off at 1:44 with an invitation to pay $10/Mo or $102/Year to join up and see the whole thing. It's not on YouTube. Is anyone a member there who can offer me a notion of how that tree-making process using florist' foam works?

Good luck with finding and inexpensive way to make your trees. Man that is a lot of trees, time to make it a desert :) Just kidding!

Maybe you could model a forest after a fire, like happened in Yellowstone NP...

Funny I had been thinking the same thing :). Or a logging crew came through and made a clear cut with just stumps left. Or a rancher/farmer cut a big block of trees down and planted grass for more pasture. Or make a lot of trees....

Since I believe Ron of Ron's Trains & Things is part of the modeling academy I wonder if these might what you have been looking for?

Thank for those links @Sumner. Lots to consider!

My other option is to update my railroad's time frame to 2023. Being a modern eastern road, I'll then pour a few five gallon buckets of lichen and ground foam over the entire layout. I'll then create a few small areas so that the train can be seen, but not too many. The effect will perfectly replicate eastern train watching with trees crowding the ROW everywhere. I'll use my shot below to assure authenticity. (y)

I'm a cheap son of a gun ! After Xmas look in the second hand stores for donated fake Xmas trees. I pick them up for 5-10 dollars ! Snip off the individual branches. Trim them to shape. I use 'Aqua Net Extra' hair spray as glue. Spray the 'trees' and use flocking ! They are cheap and don't look half bad IMHO.

** I have hundreds on my layout. I didn't flock them all at the time I made them. I have to put that on my 'To Do' list for summer..
