Wow, it has been a long time but I needed the time away, and now its getting back to train season (summer-time in Florida!). I have been working on the next set of modules, revamping my previously built urban area meant to represent an urban railserved wharehouse area of Philly that will be where the bulk of deliveries and pickups will be done from the Philadelphia yard. I am working on winter scenery. My previous modules pictured form the north end, higher in the mountains of PA and NY and have a heavier snow. I am modeling Philadelphia after a small snowfall that has been mostly cleaned up. This has been difficult because there is very little to hide certain areas of the backdrop and I am challenged to find winter backdrops with good urban debth, but I finally did so and took a couple of low quality test shots I am happy with so I figured I'd share: more to come! my best, Jan
Thanks Karl!! Progress has been very slow but now I have kicked it up a notch again. This is a conversion from this old module: I really wish I had used code 55 track but I was not going to rip it all up and waste all the money in Code 80 switches and wiring, but when I put down the rest of the snow it should cover those awful ties better. See you next time! Jan
Hello Jan, I love all your pictures about your CP Rail D&H division from page 0 - 23 . I love Cp and CN engines / trains too. What brand is your engine hall on the yard ? Thanks for looking......................Rainer
Rainert, Thanks for your compliments! As for the engine shed at the yard, that is a micro-engineering kit that I doubled in length and painted to match the loco maintenance building CP has at Binghamton, NY. My best, Jan
Jan, What bell did you use on your SD40-2s? It it the MBE NB3? I'm going to do an ex-CP SD40-2B and I haven't found a bell and mount that look as nice as yours... Thanks, Karl
Karl, The bell I used is from miniatures by eric, unfortunately picasa seems to have some problem where I cannot get at my photos other than to view thumbnails so the pictures are gone for the time being. I have continued to work at my new modules doing detailing work: These are from a new photobucket account. I have been trying to make a seamless transition from module to backdrop, imperative when working with somewhat narrow modules. This one is almost there, have to clean up the rails, do a bit of roofwork on the Tri-State Pipe and put it one more section of fence and this side is good to go. My best, Jan
Jan, thanks for confirming the bell, Sandros sinclairs are amazing. Once use see them in person nothing else will do!
Well in that case then YES! I'd love a couple of Sandro's Sinclairs, Sandro can you PM me? thanks and my best, Jan
Nice to see the updates Jan. The photo backdrops look good in the low angle shots you just posted. How well do they work in person, i.e. would you recommend this approach to a friend? I'd still love to see an overview of the revamped modules when you have a chance, something like this view: which gives a good feeling for the whole shebang. Cheers, Gary
Gary, you will certainly get your overview, but due to space constraints I have been working on one 4' module at a time!!! There is a small gap between the backdrop and the module I need to fill and then, yes, it will look pretty seamless, I am very pleased with the results. I knew the backdrop was going to be critical on this section of module because there would be no tree's hiding it and a gap in the buildings so it had to set the scene and it did so. I have already printed the backdrops for the other end of the module and they also look good, I will be moving to that side shortly! My best, Jan
Thanks Jan, looking forward to it. Maybe I missed it, but how are you producing the backdrops? Are you printing images you found online, or some other method? Thanks again, Gary
North End- Bing/Taylor after the snow: Moving south into the Pocono Mountains of Eastern Pennsylvania: Moving South through the Poconos: After leaving the Poconos, trains will enter the industrial area of these newest modules on their way to a fictional yard in South Philadelphia (which is built but not "winterized)
Finally- nearing completion are the 2 4' modules of my urban switching area (fictional representation of Philadelphia), these are maybe 2-3 weeks from completion, here are some (bad) update photos: Slowly- ever so slowly coming along!
I have nearly finished the CP Rail D&H Division "South Street Sub" (a fictional industrial area of Philadelphia), so here are some pictures: This is the pair of modules, business starts at the right (north end) with Tri-State Pipe and Steel, followed by South Jersey building supply, South 7th scrap metals, Girardi brothers distributors, NS RailTrans, and Old Lancaster baked goods: A view at South Jersey building supply: Old Lancaster baked goods: The I-95 underpass:
The Norfolk Southern "Railtrans" is an idea I got from CSX Transflo, a facility for transfer of rail loads to trucks or businesses, I lot of cement and other bulk commodities will be moved here. Girardi Brothers is a food distributor I created which will take many boxcars. My best, Jan Some more pictures: A view south down the sub: NS Railtrans building:
