"Carrying charges, my boy, carrying charges..."

As for an alternative to eBay, don't see any. I wonder if they paid some Congressmen to sneak in an amendment to some bill that makes it illegal to be an eBay competitor. Our wonderful government at work....

The apparent pending passage of the "Marketplace Fairness Act" which will mandate sales tax collection by online merchants will probably finish off the casual sellers on eBay. While it's true that small sellers will be exempt, whether eBay is the 'seller of record' will determine whether individual sellers will have to handle this, well, individually.

The latest update from the New York Times website on this (note: no partisan politics intended here, I didn't write the headline or the article):

    http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/29/u...nternet-purchases-divides-republicans.html?hp

It's already been speculated that eBay will charge sellers for the service of collecting taxes for them.

They need to find a better solution to the online tax. Since it is NOT law as of now to collect tax from another states sales , I believe the pro tax states want to increase their revanues with out representation to those that must pay it - by the other 49 states or ... overseas sellers . Whats to keep them from using the phone to call in an order vs ordering online ? much to work out for sure... this does not bode well for ebay sellers if they charge the sellers for collection and distribution of taxes collected .... 10% will look good compared to what is to come and where will it stop ?.... Not funny in the least .

Yep , Well , no modern country ever taxed itself into prosperity ... UK has a box car load of ailments to cure since Margret Thatcher was PM and the " labor left " took over ...

Before I retired, it was explained to me how this "Nexus" will work.
You ain't seen nothing if you think it will be cheaper to do for the seller than a credit card fee.

Somebody PLEASE stop this guy! From what I can tell, he took pictures of American Flyer (O scale) freight cars and prints them on card stock (in this case in N scale size) and sells them saying "That's less than $1 per pair! What can you use them for? To fix a cracked, broken or car missing the doors. Or buy "junk" American Flyer boxcars and glue these sides onto the sides, or even build your own boxcars and glue them to American Flyer boxcar frames that come up for sale from time to time on Ebay with trucks already attached. Ordinary Elmer white glue should work just fine and give you plenty of time to position each side just right, these are not stickers". Last I checked American Flyer does NOT make anything N scale. So they are not expensive at $4 and include free shipping (but not are this way, he seems to have started charging for shippin on other auctions), but he does SO MANY different 'cars' (he now even does undecorated car sides and ends) that they keep coming up in my searches for REAL cars.

Jeff, the "cardboard" seller ID you mentioned is on my 'ignore list,' Jeff, and so are what I think are his 'alter egos.'

There's actually been a lot of writing about the 'shadow economy,' which is growing, though I can see we're veering dangerously off-topic...
