http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atlas-N-Scale-48299-Rock-Island-Gp-7-Rock-4446-/112016529470 They've gone insane. There is no other way to explain it.
All the more remarkable given that, barely two months ago, one of those same locos - along with a matching Athearn caboose - sold for $111 after a single solitary bid. http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-Scale-Atl...land-MIB-OOP-RARE-CRIP-/201563291685?nma=true
Thanks for the fix BC! Yes! I'm betting after this auction ends, eBay will be flooded with Rock GP7's hoping for near the same price?
Hi folks, it's been a while... long story... But since I've just listed something on that Internet Auction Community that I'm sure will wind up in this thread sooner or later, I thought I'd just short-circuit that http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=291789888090 I'm trying to help a friend, who doubtless wishes that this item was sold back when it was going for (sitting down?) over $2200... Feel free to fling the slings and arrows... in 3, 2, 1...
I think I paid something like 19.95 (not each, altogether) for the first MT set of ATSF map boxcars. Shoulda left them in the original plastic wrap, could have paid for college, or at least my daughter's wedding. But on the other hand, I've enjoyed running them for the last 35 (?) years. Good luck, I won't be bidding, out of both my price range and my era.
Perhaps you'd do better selling through one of the N Scale Enthusiast auctions. One of those sets sold there for a bit over $1,200 just a few months ago. Supposedly the all-time high bid is $3,999.99.
Unfortunately, they are not that rare. I just got a set (#20022, $19.75, black label) late last year on eBay, still in the original cellophane, for $110.47. Other sets I've seen have gone for anywhere between $100 and $150. Out of curiosity, would anyone expect to pay more for the same set with blue label inserts? A completist collector might care, but I don't really believe there is any difference in the sets.
This is not an exorbitant price but it's just, just, just..... http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-Scale-Mic...492259?hash=item4b01211423:g:Cq8AAOSwQupXV2OQ
Just not feasible !! That many wheels on the ground...that trailer would never turn ! The side stress from the tires skidding would rip the kingpin right off the trailer...or the 5th wheel right off the truck !!!
They'll turn if the front 2 and rear 2 axle are steerable. A steerable axle is spring loaded to stay straight till the pressure of turning over powers the spring and they turn. There quite a few trailers in the pacific northwest that have 4 to 6 axles running around. Most I've seen can gross around 120,000 lbs.
I see it, but I don't quite comprehend it. Is this a model of something actually real? If so, I don't know how it could possibly work...... Some of the wheels would need a self steering ability, which I cannot picture in mind for this application.
I kind 0f doubt that it ever existed in the years of the "Rock". They might exists today, but I've never seen one. Canada or Australia maybe has something close.
My main point is he is stating this is a brand new item but it is obvious that some one has added 3 additional bogie sets to a regular Microtrains trailer so it is not new. His description states "Up for bid is a Micro-Trains New Route Rock 48' Trailer with 8 axles 32 wheels for hauling heavy loads (batteries) Trailer never used Taken out of the box for photo..." Heavy Duty Battery Trailer really? I live in the DFW area and there used to be a couple of Battery Recycler Lead Smelters in the area and most of the used battery trailers you saw were flat bets with stake sides so the trailers would not fill with Hydrogen Sulfide gas and go BOOM and new batteries were shipped in normal 2 axle bogie trailers. Hey, that's a modeling idea for a module. Model a lead smelter complete with protesters. Will give me a chance to use my BLMA "mooning" figures.

It's obvious this trailer is a botched hack because the added wheels don't even line up correctly with the existing set. Just ridiculous.
