Here's another one, probably the wrong placement for the decimal point, but it made me take a second look! :startled: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SD60M-BNSF-9238-/171566450708?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item27f2284814
If you have any doubt that old junk is getting expensive, here sit two useless locomotives, the best of them barely able to move themselves, not the asking price, this is what they sold for..Last week,I saw one of those LV C420's go for 35 bucks.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-2-Mo...684860?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item3f418cc7bc
Well, that C420 mght be worth a couple of dollars, perhaps for the shell. The other one would be better used if I bounced it off my neighbor's dog's head.
That FA is one of the most worthless locomotives ever made.Only one truck drive,[so is the 420..] even though they weigh a ton,it wobbles down the track like a spasmodic drunk, and won't pull anything.I've made a lot of nice locomotives out of that 420 shell, but at the time,I used the Life Like GP38-2 chassis under it with the Model Power sideframes.Of course, right after I spent five years on and off working on these,Atlas made theirs..Bought them too....
What I meant is that sometimes eBay sellers sell a bare frame with trucks, or just the frame with trucks sold separately. Then it's only a matter of buying the board and the body shell to create a dummy unit with functioning lights.
If you go through Atlas Parts catalog, it is often not that bad...depending on which series the shell is in and whether you want all the details or not. This is actually something I have on the back burner in HO once Atlas gets around to rerunning the GP39-2 and thus gets parts. It's a Trainman, so relatively low detail. So I'm going to buy a shell which I expect to be all told well south of $20 and use a "UBBF" Or Ubiquitous Blue Box (GP38/40/50) Frame and trucks to sit it on. I presume the same can be done in N. Atlas's parts department is relatively extensive.
The bidding did start at a dollar. I think the seller might have been just as surprised as we are. That's what happens with Highly Motivated Bidders sometimes.
Seems to be a trend..I've been buying vintage RC stuff for years.A few weeks ago,I was bidding on a pair of Chevron 1/12 bodies, one factory painted, one clear.I have a brand new Associated 12e,I wanted the painted body, was just gonna turn around and sell the unpainted one..I figured it would sell for 75 bucks or so,I bid 90,it sold for close to $200.00!!
Here's my favorite from a few days back. I almost bid on this one....wait a minute.... what's wrong here? Do you see it? http://www.ebay.com/itm/111523196369?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT New in box. And, after I asked a question, the seller abruptly corrected it, and ultimately ended it, to his credit. Do you see it?
