"This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing." Translation:"If I actually sell this for what I'm asking for it,I'm just gonna end up giving the guy his money back because I just figured out is a POC because I saw people making fun of it on Trainboard.."
Anybody see the repowered EP-2 chassis? Yay! Finally, a cheap commercially available EP-2! http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-scale-Cus...890061?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item3a97ae5dcd Of course, it has --wrong sideframes --wrong number of axles --wrong paint scheme But hey. It's an EP-2. Here's mine that I'm building.
Somehow, I knew before even looking, Del Prado. Is yours an NJ brass version, with Bearden modifications?
My goodness, absolutely not. The NJ Custom Brass EP-2 from 1983 (relatively speaking) is a piece of cr@p. (no offense to anyone here who owns one). It takes hours and hours of very skilled tuning to even get them to run fairly well. More often than not, they barely pull themselves when I get ahold of them. This model was made by Kumata in 2003 using only a couple of the original NJ parts (like the sideframes). The rest is a 100% all new locomotive. VERY nice detailing- much more accurate than the NJ version (look at all that piping on the roof). The shells are accurate too (3 versions!). Also, NJ horrible trucks only have 2 powered axles per large truck (that's one reason they slip so badly). This model has ALL 4 axles powered per large truck- so 8 powered axles). Kumata only made 50 of these. 35 as painted Ready to Run and 15 in kit form. The one in the photo above is a kit that I assembled and redesigned/improved in countless ways. It has DCC, lighting, and will pull a prototypical 11-13 consist on level track. There is a very very long thread on another board detailing every single step I have taken in the building of this model. Unfortunately (whew!) it has been going on one year in building this. I'm sure I have well over 1,000 hours in this thing but it is finally almost done. To my knowledge, that model is the only one ever seen outside of Japan. KMT planned to export them, but the Yen/Dollar exchange was not favorable at the time.
Well, in fairness(??) it's never described as an EP-2, just as bipolar. Although he might have meant delusional instead...
LOL. I actually bought one of those Del Prado models just to see what could be done. Answer-- not much on that particular loco. The ENTIRE underfame (all 4 trucks) is one cast piece. And the ENTIRE body (2 cabs and a boiler room) is one cast piece. Yikes! So his body does not bend and all. It looks like he took the Del Prado shell and placed it over a GG1 mech. It must look pretty weird going around curves!
Well, this explains why I'm not familiar with the release. I wonder where the rest are hiding? Maybe in a secret vault under Mount Fuji? Guarded by Godzilla?
I hate to rag on models that at least took a little bit of effort... but dang, that Del Prado shell looks like something straight out of the Fisher-Price catalog :-( Cheers, -Mark
Mark- I know about those. I had one, and even bought a traction booster kit for it. That unit is now owned by Kirk Reddie. I was referencing what Ron was saying, about his being the only one seen outside of Japan. Apparently from a much later production, never publicly available.
Ebay Anger The only thing worse than having it happen once is having it happen twice... At least he has new pictures of them, this time, showing all the wonderful damage. I'm confused though I thought I had actually seen bids on them, but apparently not, and he just relisted them. At the moment, I think the MT couplers are probably worth more than the locos. http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-SCALE-KAT...365591?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item2595ffe597 http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-SCALE-KAT...363168?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item2595ffdc20
Well, his price is dropped significantly. Pictures or not, still leaves out any mention of the walkways on both sides of two units being chopped away. I'd sure like to know what happened to create such damage.
I seen that with the new listing and new pics. They look rusty, but of course they could have been painted that way.
I am quite surprised to read they were all sold, in Japan. I know there are a couple of MILW fans there. Tey must just simply like funky traction stuff.
