Yes. It looks like the foam insert was designed to have the little baggies of parts at the end, and there are none.

Just got my Kato UP SD70ACe and it had the plastic truck support to prevent shipping damage. IMHO the model is typical Kato - excellent. This is my first post on this forum but have been in N gauge since 79. There seems to be more useful information on this forum than on the Atlas one.

Welcome. You'll LOVE this board. Something for everyone and no question will ever go unanswered...both because there is a plethora of knowledge and also because the people with that knowledge are more than willing to share.

Prepare to read daily, or twice daily, or every few hours!

Got the two that I ordered, and all I can say is that Kato hit another sure shot with this one. Very pleased.
    Tomorrow I will post pictures

Welcome to Trainboard! I don't know if there's more useful info here than on that other board, but I think there's less non-useful info! ;)

Testing completed and Digitrax DN163K1C installed, UP 8520 leads a unit coal train on its inaugural revenue trip:

I received my DRGW unit. Looks good, runs smoothly. One question for those who have run theirs. What about the pulling power?

I just did a fast scan of this thread, and didn't see it posted anywhere. The MT 1015 coupler is a direct fit, with squaring off the bottom corners of the coupler pockets. Installation is with the mounting screws, you can't use the original Kato retainer. It will just fall out on the track, and the train will run over it, and derail.

It will pull a 15 car Unit coal train of 15 loaded Deluxe twin tub gons (MT equipped) over my layout with no trouble. I've had 23 cars behind it, and it pulled them, but I did note some slipping. Pulling power should go up some more after the black coating on the wheels begins to wear off.

    Terry,
Thanks for the input. I was beginning to wonder as mine started slipping with 12 cars ( all micro train truck equipped ) going up a 2% grade on a 20" radius curve.
Hope you are right about the wheels wearing a bit.

I learned that with the original run Mikado. Also, I don't remember seeing many modern diesels pulling a train by themselves, usually there are at least two. My layout has 1% grades, but 11" radius curves.

Mine seem to run fine..... Installing a decoder and getting it to work is a PITA! (contact problems with the frame)
One thing that I absolutely hate is the colored light tubes for the ditchlights and headlight, It makes the ditchlights too yellow even with super bright LED's.

I used a motor contact clip off an Athearn SD70, and stuck it on the contact end of the decoder.

Just got mine, put in a decoder, hooked up about 18 husky stacks and off she went. The Rio Grand SD70ACe by kato is by far the smoothest and the most quiet engine they have ever produced. It is truly amazing i can hardly hear it run. Nice job kato now bring on the rest of them.

    My DRGW is nearly here...

Only it's being held by that well known band of Pirates, HM Revenue & Customs :parghh:

The ransom has been paid so will be here day after tomorrow at the latest :plaugh:
