These are nice, but I'll be honest, I think the lightning stripe or classic scheme as is with just the herald and the numbers on the long hood would be fine.

Its a What if, what if Metra never existed.

The numbers on the hood was a freight thing. The paint job is as if the evil one was refused the takeover of the C&NW. For many years after the formation of Metra the locomotive were from the original railroads were used.
The C&NW was famous for buying older equipment and using it until you could see through it. Their roster contained many first generation diesels when they were absorbed, many on their third rebuild. The E and F units that pulled commuters during the week often pulled freight on the weekends.

I had an SD90 done up in CB&Q Blackbird. The sides said, "Way of the West" and "Zephyrs Everywhere." I sold that one but I do have 6 unpainted kato SD70 MACs so I can have two each of Chinese Red, Blackbird, and Greyback - when I get around to it.

Here's another one I've been working on. Arnold is supposed to be releasing the model next year, and I've got one on preorder.

If anyone is up to it, and seeing how some of you are great with the computer graphics, I'd like to see some of the modern locomotive in Santa Fe Blue & Yellow War Bonnet schemes. Can you guys do a few for me here ? Please ? I think it would be enjoyed by all Santa Fe guys, thanks in advance !

Thanks for the "bump". I lost my link to this old favorite of mine. I hope a lot more folks will add to it.

I use "MS Paint" sometimes augmented by "IrfanView" for my work. I find the "profiles" here:
    New Page 1
Try to always give them credit when using their work.
I'm not really up for doing any new ones at this time as I'm trying to stay focused on getting the GandG running by 12/31.

Now your talking, thats pretty cool right there buoy !!! So if, Santa Fe was still intact, and Super Fleet colors were never re-stored, then this is what we might have seen in the way of modern Hi Tech locomotives running on Santa Fe rails, pretty awesome, thanks so much for your willingness to help satisfy the curiousity of others.

Not really much of a "scheme" but a semi-fantasy identity...
Texas and South-Eastern, a lumber-company related common carrier had green locos I considered a dull green. I used that color for my free-lanced Johnston and East Texas diesel-- just solid more-or-less apple green. Actually the prototype was a glossy bright green when it came out of the paint shop. Green handrails except white at the ends.
I found prototype color photos in Journal of Texas Shortline Railroads and Transportation Feb/ Mar/ Apr 1998 Vol.2 #4.
Only one end of the model loco shows here. You can see I must be pretty blase about the diesel because I never bothered getting a picture that really showed it.
I used the same green color on the parent company's log trucks and crane

However the skeleton log cars are a rusty olive drab. To make a distinctive look for the BP initials of "Big Piney", I turned the letter B upside down so the double bulges of the B bulged to the left while the single bulge of the letter P bulged to the right.

Texas-South Eastern had a former Southern Pacific wood caboose, #5. I simply used the Kadee (It wasn't MicroTrainsLine yet when they mftd mine!) SP caboose and lettered it for Johnston and East Texas. The only thing distinctive is that the common carrier name forms the abbreviation "JET" for this conveyance which is so slow and easy-going, it uses a dog as the conductor's assistant.

    Trend Setter?

Was I ahead of the curve when I started this thread ever so long ago, (5years +-)? Recently it seems that manufacturers are coming out with fantasy / hypothetical / unique schemes.
    or
Was it happening all along but I was not in the hobby at the time?
    A little of both?
Yes, there was always Micro Trains with their fanciful productions.

    HO but: http://www.intermountain-railway.com/RF0211HOES44ACs.htm

Just a thought: Did the UP "Heritage Series" influence the acceptance?

fatalxsunrider43 - I forgot all about your fantasy interests. I agree, I'd love to see a few current models in blue bonnet colors. Sigh, no I wouldn't, know what that would cost? argg.

    Eric220 - nice work!
Ken - love the logging pics

Locomotives and cars have always been painted by the manufacturers in paint schemes that did not appear on that type of equipment. I HAVE A Mehano/Model Power F40 in Santa Fe War Bonnet with matching Bi-Level Gallery cars from ConCor from the early '80s. ConCor has sold many Japanese electric locos as US lines.

Ah, yes, Con Cor ya gotta love. I have their U50s in at least 3 fantasy schemes.

How about this one? I happen to have a small fleet of sharknoses hanging around right now, which are overwhelmingly black and need some color. What I am thinking of doing, is adding some orange to the black and making some Milwaukee sharks. (I know they had a few Baldwins, right...?)
